Top Ten Fun Christmas Songs for Kids

Kids are tickled by the original and unusual as well as the magical at Christmastime and these ten songs reach kids on those levels. "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" relates the story of a child sneaking down the stairs to discover Mommy kissing Santa Claus. This rendition is performed by Bobby Sherman and has a country swing sound.

"Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" is a giggle fest of morbid humor that tickles kids' fancies. Granma, on her way home from a family Christmas party, is run over by a reindeer. The family discovers her body and wonders what to do with her presents. The song is performed by Dr. Elmo.

"The Chipmunk Song" a favorite of young and old alike, Alvin and his brothers Simon and Theodore, tell Santa what they are hoping for.

"Snoopy Vs the Red Baron" was the inspiration for "Snoopy's Christmas" by the Royal Guardsmen. Based on the original song, this Christmas version has Snoopy and his foe meeting in the sky and instead of firing at one another, they are inspired by the Christmas bells heard from below to be merciful.

"All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth" chronicles the most fervent wish of a child facing the holidays without his two front teeth. The recording was done by Spike Jones and His City Slickers.

"You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" from the Dr. Seuss cartoon "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" eschews the obnoxious traits of the Grinch who plans to spoil Christmas for the Whos in Whoville. The baritone belongs to Thurl Ravenscroft

"I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" by Gayla Peevey is a silly song about a young girl's wish for a hippopotamus for Christmas, nothing else will do. Done in the style of John Phillips Sousa march, the tune has lots of kid appeal.

"I'm Getting Nuttin' for Christmas" Kids can definitely relate to this lamentation from a boy who has been so bad all year that he's getting nothing for Christmas. Performed by Stan Freeburg.

"Jolly Old Saint Nicholas" by Chet Atkins does what every kid would like to do, ask Santa what he's bringing this year.

"Up on the Housetops" sung by Gene Autry is child's vision of St. Nick's visit from the footsteps on the roof to filling the stockings along the fireplace.
