Christmas Movies for the Fan on Your Shopping List

Heather Shockney
If you have someone on your holiday shopping list that loves Christmas movies then I will offer some suggestions for gift ideas. Some people will only watch the occasional Christmas movie at the holidays, but any true fan of Christmas movies will watch them while its 90 degrees and they are relaxing in the air conditioning. Here are my top ten picks of Christmas movies that be would make great gifts.

1 National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, in this great Christmas movie we find the Griswold's preparing for a family Christmas when they're rude obnoxious relatives show up unannounced. If you are familiar with the expression if it wasn't for bad luck I would have no luck at all this fits Chevy chase's character to a T. Everything he tries to do goes wrong. He is depending on the bonus check at work to make his family Christmas extra special and when he finds out the check isn't coming things go from bad to worse. This movie is one of the funniest holiday films out there. This is a must for any Christmas movie fan.

2. A Christmas Story, this movie is a family tradition in our home .We watch it for 24 hours straight on Christmas Day. I couldn't imagine Christmas without it. In this holiday classic we find a boy hoping to get a Red Rider BB gun for Christmas. The only problem is everyone he tells about the gift he wants tries to talk him out of it. Oh we can't forget the wonderful Leg lamp his father wins and then proudly displays in the front window of their house. Or the language dear old dad uses when the furnace goes on the fritz. There are so many memorable parts in this Christmas movie like when Ralphie says a swear word and then blames it on his friend for teaching it to him, or the way his mother dresses up his little brother to go outside, he can barely walk .O am sure we all of memories of being made to bundle up to go out in the snow. If only one reason to buy this movie is to hear the famous 'You'll shoot your eye out' you'll be glad you did.

3. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, This is great addition to anyone who loves Christmas movies collection. Jim Carey does an excellent job of playing the Grinch. The story is a little different then the Dr. Seuss book but it's a great tale of how the Grinch learned to love Christmas again. Complete with all of the Who's from WhoVille. The movie also includes some great holiday music as well.

4. The Santa Clause, this movie stars Tim Allen .He manages to kill Santa on Christmas Eve of all nights. Next thing he knows he has started to gain some weight and grow a white beard. His ex wife thinks he's playing these tricks to get in good with his son. Except his son knows all about what happened and is thrilled to have Santa for a dad. This is a great family movie and should be watched every year.

5.The Santa Clause 2, in this great Christmas movie we find Santa (Tim Allen) needing to find a wife or he will no longer be Santa. He has until Christmas Eve to make some lucky woman Mrs. Clause, but that isn't his only problem. He finds his son has landed on the naughty list and must make things right with him. While Santa is away tending to his son the replacement Santa he left to keep things in order at the north pole has started making changes that could ruin Christmas for everyone. This is a wonderful movie for the whole family to enjoy each Christmas for years to come.

6.The Night They Saved Christmas, this movie should be a Christmas classic. It's all about a family who's dad works for an oil drilling company and they are drilling in places that 's causing damage to the Santa's home and workshops. Santa sends his elf to talk with the family but they don't believe him so he takes the mother and two children back to the North Pole to show them. Once they see the damage that's being done they have to convince the dad to stop his drilling. This would make a great gift for the Christmas movie fan on your holiday shopping list. Kids will love the elves and seeing Santa's workshop.

7.The Original TV Christmas Classics, Rudolph, Frosty, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, The Little Drummer Boy, Frosty Returns, in this great Christmas movie you will find all the holiday shows that you watched as a child. This would be the perfect movie to show your own children. A must have for any Christmas movie lovers collection. By buying this movie for a gift you could be starting a new family tradition. Nothing says Christmas like watching Rudolph visit the land of Misfit toys.

8.A Charlie Brown Christmas, who doesn't remember the sorry looking Christmas tree that Charlie Brown had? This movie is great for Christmas movie fans, it reminds them to think of the true meaning of Christmas. Kids of all ages will enjoy seeing Charlie Brown direct the school Christmas pageant.

9. Christmas with the Kranks, this has already became a tradition in our house. The Kranks decide since their daughter isn't going to be home for Christmas that they will just skip it and go on a cruise. This doesn't set well with the neighbors, after all the Kranks host a great neighborhood party every year. The neighbors become even more angered when they find out the Kranks will not be decorating their house either. This Christmas movie is hilarious; it stars Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis. They could not of cast any better actors for the movie. When they get a call that their daughter will be home for Christmas they have to hurry and get the party together. Can you imagine trying to find food for the party on Christmas Eve? That is just what Jamie Lee Curtis has to do. If you know someone that enjoys watching Christmas movies all year long this is the one to get them.

10. Surviving Christmas, another great movie to add to the holiday collection. This movie stars Ben Affleck as an executive that is to concerned with his career to have any family or friends. He decides he wants to go back to the house he grew up in this year for Christmas. When he gets there he discovers someone else living in it. So he pays the family to let him spend Christmas with them. There are several comical parts to this Christmas movie. The family he joins has some issues of their own and in the end things seem to have a way of working out for everyone.

Anyone that loves Christmas movies will enjoy the movies I have listed here. You might be wondering why I didn't include the classics like White Christmas or Miracle on 34Th street; well I figured any true fan of holiday movies would already have those. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a great holiday movie during other times in the year. They make you feel all warm and fuzzy so that can't be a bad thing.

All good suggestions, but the one most requested at our movie store was "The Year Without a Santa Claus"- it's the one with the heat-miser and the cold-miser. Sing Along!"I'm Mr. Heat-miser, I'm Mr. Sun, I'm Mr. heat blister, I"m Mr. One hundred and one."

What a terrific list! I'd also like to add "The Shop Around the Corner" with Jimmy Stewart. It was the movie that they based that terrible "You've Got Mail" on. Always stick with the classics!
