Top Ten Gift Ideas for the Cleveland Browns Fan
Ten Ideas to Make Sure Your Browns Backer Has a Great Holiday
1. 1. A Cleveland Browns snowman ornament from CVS is a perfect item to begin with. I discovered this the other day while picking up a prescription. There really isn't much to it; just a snowman wearing a Cleveland jersey. However, for the Cleveland fan that may have everything, it is a cute little ornament that is unique. Not to mention that at five bucks, it's a nice and inexpensive stocking stuffer.
2. 2. If you're willing to shell out more money, than a Kellen Winslow, Jr. jersey is the way to go. A fan of any football team would love to receive an authentic jersey that he could show off while cheering on his team whether he is at the stadium or the local bar. There is no better jersey for a Browns fan to get then that of K2, the future of the team. That is if he stays off the motorcycle.
3. 3. If your loved one is a Cleveland Browns fan, that means he is used to disappointment and sorrow. Why not help him ease his own pain with some Cleveland Browns beer mugs. These can be found in a variety of places, depending on which kind of mug you are searching for. The grocery store often has these for less than twenty dollars.
4. 4. Being a Browns fan means having a loyalty to a team that often breaks your heart. It also means having an all consuming hatred for the Pittsburgh Steelers and everything about them. This Christmas, let your Browns fan show off this hatred with a "Go Browns. Steelers Suck" t-shirt. Sure, Pittsburgh may have won the Super Bowl last year. This year, though, they have the same record as the Brownies.
5. 5. Bernie Kosar was the Browns' quarterback in the 1980's and is an icon to Cleveland fans to this day. A signed football by the former quarterback would be the highlight of any Brown and Orange Christmas. Luckily, such items can be found on eBay or other websites, as well as sports memorabilia outlets in the Cleveland area.
6. 6. Spending Christmas Eve at the stadium may not sound like a happy holiday for you, but this year there is no better place for a Browns backer to be than at Cleveland Browns Stadium. On that day, not only will the Browns battle Tampa Bay but there will be a "Thank You Cleveland" day to commemorate the 60 year anniversary of the Browns in Cleveland. Prizes will be given away, including a flat screen television, items autographed by the team, and Super Bowl tickets.
7. 7. 1964 was the last time the Browns won a championship. Now this game can be re-lived over and over again via the glory of eBay and DVD. The entire 1964 season, including the championship game, is available thanks to Rare Sportsfilms Inc. Both picture and sound quality are immaculate. This is a collector's item that I have picked up for my father, and I have little doubt that he will love it.
8. 8. On Being Brown: What it Means to Be a Cleveland Browns Fan by Scott Huler is a great testament to those who live and die on the Browns. This book discusses not so much the history of the team as it does the relationship fans have with the Browns. As somebody who is a third generation Cleveland Browns fan I see bits and pieces of my own life in this book. People who cheer on Cleveland live and die on the Browns. It is almost a religion, and Huler does a wonderful job at describing that point.
9. 9. 1999 saw the rebirth of the Cleveland Browns after a three year absence from the NFL. That August the Browns played an exhibition game in Cleveland against the hated Steelers. A great way to remember the return of the Browns is a 13.5" x 39" poster of the opening kickoff from that night. Not only is this a great collector's item, the poster also looks really cool hanging on the wall.
10. 10. A Cleveland Browns Christmas tree skirt is a cute decoration that any Cleveland Browns fan would love to put at the bottom of their tree. Not only is the skirt the traditional Cleveland brown and orange, there is a rather mean looking dog embroidered on it, perfect for any member of the Dawg Pound. One of my friends picked this up for his parents a few years ago and they loved it.
Sure, there are plenty more gifts that you could pick up for your favorite Browns fan, but here is a good starting point. While the Browns will probably once again disappoint their fans with yet another losing season, you can give your loved one a happy holiday.
