Christmas is coming up before you even know it so it's probably time to start thinking what you're going to get for your family, friends, and pets. Everyone focuses on buying present for their family and friends that sometimes their pets get neglected. Your pets love you all year long and they would love presents also. One of the pets that gets neglected the most is probably parakeets. All they ask for is a small gift for only a few dollars to make them feel loved. Here I will specify ten gift ideas for your special little parakeet they would really appreciate.

1. Cotton Perch. It's time to replace that ripped up, old perch and give your parakeet a nice, brand new one. A nice cotton bendable perch would make your parakeet very happy. With those, you can bend them to all sorts of shapes to keep life interesting in your parakeet's life. You can pick one of these up at any of your local pet stores for $5-$10, depending on its length.

2. A new cage. Your parakeet is probably getting a little tired of the same old cage all the time. It hasn't seen a new place to roam and play for a while. Your parakeet would love a nice, newer, and larger cage. It's understandable that you may not have enough room for a larger cage or a large cage may be a little out of your price range. If that's the case, build your parakeet a cage yourself! You can easily build a nice play place for your parakeet or a full cage if you'd like. It's a nice fun project to work on and it'll really give your parakeet a new place to roam and adventure.

3. Shredder toy. Does your parakeet have a bad habit of picking his/her own feathers? Well this is a great way to prevent that and allow your parakeet to have fun! It's a strip you tie on your bird's cage and as the bird picks it, it will unravel. They come in about a 30 foot stretch for about $5. Small price to pay to give your parakeet a fun time and it's good for them!

4. Wood & Bead Ladder. If your bird loves to perch and climb, this is for them. This ladder allows climbing, swinging, perching, and playing. Your parakeet would definitely be thankful for this. This ranges from $10-$15. A little on the expensive side as for parakeet toys go, but your parakeet would absolutely love it.

5. Birdhouse. Your parakeet needs their own room too along with their cage. Attaching a birdhouse to their cage makes a great addition to their lives. It's a nice cozy place for your bird to be alone and have their privacy and when they want to come out and play, they'll come right out into their cage. Bird houses range from $15-$50, depending on the quality and size. Again, you can also build your own.

6. New water cup. When was the last time your parakeet got a new water cup? They're probably getting sick of seeing the same old cup everyday to drink out of, get them a nice new one with lots of colors and glamour! At your local pet store, you can pick up a new cup/feeder with a guard around it which avoids them making a mess when feeding. This gives your bird something new to enjoy and you have to do less cleanup.

7. Hang Toy. Is your parakeet tired of the same old toy hanging from their cage everyday? Well it's about time to get them a new one. There are a lot of these to choose from and you can pick them up for cheap at your local pet store. A favorite are color links with a bell at the end. Parakeets love colors and the bell would give them a little ring in their lives.

8. Favorite Snacks. What's your parakeet's favorite snack? Entice them with a treat! We also want our parakeets to be healthy. Try to find something for them that have nutritious minerals in them, meanwhile being absolutely delicious for your bird. A treat that is a favorite among parakeets are peanuts. At your local Petsmart, you can pickup an item called "Cactus with Peanuts". They are peanuts covered with cholla cactus, which suggests the bird chew through that to get to the peanuts. While they are chewing through that, they are ingesting nutritious minerals.

9. A friend. Do you only have one parakeet? Are you considering another? If so, this would be a great time to get one! Your parakeet has your companionship but, during the hours when you are gone, it would love a friend.

10. Love. The holiday season isn't just about giving gifts right? It's about spending time with your loved ones and showing them how much you care. Remember, your parakeet loves you and is grateful for taking care of them through the year and have treated you well. Show them how much you care and that you're grateful too. Play with them, converse with them, have fun, and enjoy the holiday season.
