Top Ten Gift Ideas for Someone Who Has Too Much

Marissa Lee
Do you have a friend or a relative who already has too much? And you don't know what to get them, because clearly they don't need more "stuff"? Then don't buy them things that will just take up more space in their house, car, office, etc. Find them something they can appreciate or use that doesn't last until it's thrown or given away, like some type of service or a consumable item. Here are some suggestions:

1.) Donate money to charity in their name: Find out (if you don't already know) what's close to their heart, be it animals, poverty, or a specific disease, and find an appropriate charity to which you can donate money. Many charities have or can make some sort of written acknowledgment to the person in whose name you have donated money, so you can have a piece of paper to put in a nice card.

2.) Spa Treatment/Massage: Get them a gift certificate for a massage. If they have had a lot of massages, have them try something new, like a hot stone massage. Or give them a gift certificate for a different spa service, like a facial, or a body wrap, or a pedicure. Or let it up to them and give them a certificate for whatever service they choose.

3.) Food/drink: Food is great, because everyone needs it. And it only takes up space until it is used, so it's perfect for people who have too much. You could bake something especially for them, like their favorite desert. Or you could buy them something like a fancy bottle of flavored olive oil or a nice bottle of wine. Good liquor is always appreciated too.

4.) Cleaning Service: If they don't already have a housekeeper, buy them a gift certificate for a cleaning service. These can be bought for a one-time cleaning. Check your local phone book for options or ask around for recommendations. Housecleaning is a great gift for someone who has a lot of clutter or little time.

5.) Babysitting Offer: Make up gift certificates in which you promise to babysit on nights of their choice. That way, they can plan to go out without worrying about finding a sitter (which will hopefully motivate them to go out more. So what you're really giving them is the freedom to go out).

6.) Dance Classes: Find a local dance class that they may be interested in, like salsa or swing, and pay the tuition for it. I'm not sure how that would work, if you would just pay in advance or if you would buy a gift certificate, but I'm sure you could find a way to work it out. And it'd be such a fun present.

7.) Yoga Package: Yoga packages make great gifts, especially for people who are busy and stressed and never have time to relax. Getting them a yoga package as a gift will encourage them to go to yoga class, which will offer some much needed relaxation and stretching.

8.) A Trip: Organize a trip or vacation for them.It can be simple, like a day trip, or larger and more complex (maybe involving plane tickets or cruise ships). But you don't have to spend a lot of money on this. You could just arrange to take them to a place that they would enjoy that they've never been, or a place they used to love that they haven't gone to in a while. Any type of trip would be nice.

9.) Gift Certificate to a Restaurant: Find a neat, unique, or fancy restaurant that they don't know about or that they have never been to, get them a gift certificate, and promise to go with them sometime.

10.) Something Fun and Silly: Help them lighten up a little! Get them a gift certificate to an ice skating rink or an amusement or water park, and promise to go with them. Or offer to take them to a disco and buy drinks all night. Think up anything silly and fun that the two of you could do together and find a way to turn that into a present. Be creative! It may end up being the most appreciated one of all.
