Top Ten Gift Ideas for Sports Loving Husbands

Jennifer Bell

I wish I could say I am a football widow. Sadly, I am a football, baseball, golf, and sometimes basketball widow. My husband, like many other men, LOVES sports. Here are some great ideas I have found.

Wallets and/or checkbook covers. I have seen all sorts of these. Some are kind of a nylon with screen printing on them, but there are much better ones out there. I found my husband a leather wallet on online with his favorite football team's logo embossed on it. Several times JCPenney will have some similar close to Christmas, but anywhere that sells a lot of leather should either have them or be able to get them for you. They aren't that expensive, and hubby can show his team spirit everywhere he goes.

Tickets to a game are GREAT gifts. If you live anywhere in driving distance of a stadium, get tickets. This can get expensive, but you can check online auction sites for people selling theirs, or check your local paper or pennysaver. Some people purchase tickets only to find out they can't go, or they buy season tickets and sell off tickets to games they can't or won't attend. Most radio stations will also run contests to give away tickets and you can always try to win those. Gift cards for ticketmaster can also be purchased, allowing him to pick the game he would like to see most.

Car items. This works especially well if you each have cars you use most of the time. You can get license plate holders, car seat covers, antenna toppers, floormats, and window stickers. They all come in a variety of sports and teams, so you can find the one you want fairly easy. You can also have decorative license plates made for the front of the car with their team logo on it.

Jerseys. This can go one of two ways. If you know his favorite player, you can purchase a jersey of that player's. They can be found at almost any sports store. Now, though, some places will customize jerseys with your husband's last name on the back. They also come in a variety of sports and teams and can make him feel almost like a real part of the team!!!

If you are a smaller budget, you can still give a really nice gift. Get a basket or bucket of some sort. You can paint the basket in the team colors if you wish. Spray paint works well. Inside, place a box of microwave popcorn, an inexpensive hat (Walmart sells all sorts of team logo hats), perhaps an all-in-one remote, team logo socks and/or tshirt, team logo bottle opener, and some other team logo items you can often find at discount stores. This gives him a nice gift to enjoy while he is sitting back watching the game. Sometimes you can even find dvd's with old games or bloopers on them at discount stores he may enjoy that would make a nice additon to the gift basket. Wrap the handle with a ribbon in a team color and tie into a bow.

TiVo! A TiVo digital video recorder is a great gift for a sports fan. He can record games while he's not home or record one game while watching another. Now he will never have to miss a game he was really wanting to see, and if he is having a really busy week, he can record up to 80 hours to watch at his convenience. Subscription is required.

A cable or satellite sports package is also a great gift. Most providers now provide (for a fee) sports packages for the season that will air every game played. The price varies by sport and provider, but it is worth it to a sports fan!

Satellite radio is a new trend for sports fans. He can listen to any game on the go. A lot of men have busy lives and like to listen to their games. With the satellite radio, he can listen at home, in the car, or while exercising. Subscription is required.

Autographed items. Depending on the sport, there are a lot of items out there. Balls, pictures, cards, jerseys, etc. Online auction sites are a great resource for these. True sports fans would be thrilled to get an autograph from their favorite player, or even team. Be careful, though, these can get pricey.

Playing items. If your husband plays sports, get him something that he can use to play! Baseball or softball players can use batting gloves, gloves to catch with, bats, balls, a bat bag, or even baseball pants. Football players can use footballs, mouth guards, pads, or a bag to carry their things in. Golfers can use golf clubs, a golf bag, tees, balls, or golf shoes. You can even get golfers passes to a nearby golf course. Get your basketball player a goal or new ball. Think about what he used when he plays and see if he needs a new one!

Sports fans are usually die hard fans and will appreciate anything that helps them enjoy their hobby a little more.
