Top Ten Gift Ideas for the Stylish Alcoholic

To Drink or Drink in Style?

Timothy Guy
Just because someone enjoys drinking themselves into a stupor, doesn't mean they can't do it in style.

This holiday season here are a few tips on what to get the person who drinks everything.

1. Automatic Corkscrew - Not only do these gadgets look cool, but they also help drinkers avoid the task of looking for the always elusive corkscrew in the drawer. It also saves time (more time equals more drinking) by using a needle and propellant cartridges to force the cork out with almost no work at all on the user's part.

2. Oxford Pocket Flask with Shot - From Ashmont Engraving comes this stylish and useful flask for those times where you just need a drink. The flask has a leather center with a removable shot glass that can be easily removed from the flask itself. It can also be engraved with an initial.

3. Electronic Ice Crusher - The days of using an ice pick or a blunt instrument to crush ice for your favorite cocktail is over. Now there is a machine that will do it for you. These machines take cups of ice at the top and use steel blades to finely cut and chop the ice. Some of them are even so easy to use, just a simple on and off switch. Besides, who really wants a drinker wielding an ice pick nowadays? These machines are not cheap at all, with most running over $100, but great technology never starts cheap.

4. Substitutes for plain ice - Plain old ice isn't very stylish anyways so why not trick out your drinks with other ways to make them cold. You can get ice cube trays to turn the cubes into different stylish shapes like the Playboy bunny symbol. If you are allergic to ice, or just ran out, then try the Piet Hein Drink Cooler. This stainless steel egg shaped gadget has a liquid center, that if put in a freezer beforehand for an hour, keeps drinks cold for a good while.

5. Misto Martini Vermouth Sprayer - Making a proper martini is hard enough, but to do it in style is a mission impossible... until now. The little gadget looks like those Binaca breath spray things, but these spray a nice mist of Vermouth. So instead of getting the bottle out, coating each glass and then dumping the Vermouth out you can quickly mist each glass and get to drinking sooner.

6. LED Drink Stirrers - Mixing up a cocktail with a wood stick or a spoon is not very stylish. These stirrers from Logo-Lites glow in three different colors; red, blue and green, and can be imprinted with a logo or anything you might find stylish.

7. Drunk Coasters Set - Yes, the average stylish alcoholic might drink a lot, but they also might care about keeping their furniture nice as well. This set of six glass coasters from Z Gallerie are transparent with each one defining words close to an alcoholic's heart: "tipsy," "plastered," and "hung-over."

8. Beer Bottle Bands - Also from Z Gallerie are some cool bands to put over your favorite bottle of booze. They are like those Lance Armstrong "LiveStrong" bands, only more selfish and a little funnier. Some of the bands include the words "trashed," "tanked," and "loaded." They also serve the practical purpose of being able to find your bottle and not some stranger's drink.

9. Nambe Tilt Barware - Having barware that stands straight up is so yesterday, the new trend is tilting... like most alcoholics trying to stand straight. This set includes two glasses and a decanter. While being the most stylish item on the list, it is also the most expensive at $195. There are also tilted goblets and highball glasses available.

10. Cube Martini Set - Most martini glasses are cylinder shaped at the top with a tin straight base. Practical? Yes. Stylish? Not now. This martini set keeps the traditional martini top design, but comes with a glass cube to hold the glass up. Not only does it keep the glass straight and upright, but it also provides a unique space for ice to chill each martini.

The prices and ordering information for each of these items can be found in the additional resources.
