Top Ten Gifts for the Tired Mom

Gifts that Any Mom Would Love

Eileen Waller
Do you want advice on finding the perfect gift for a tired mom? Then, ask me. I can tell you first hand some of the things I value most, as a tired mom with 7 children. My family often will ask me what I would like for special occasions (birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas). I'll usually say, "something chocolate", but after some thought, here is a list of gifts that would make me grateful!

Quiet time for myself is rare, so, solitude would be high on my list. It is hard to get 5 minutes to go to the bathroom alone. Nine times out of ten, I get a knock on the door, with a little voice calling, "Mommy", before 3 minutes have passed. So, Daddy's Day Out - with the kids, is a gift goes a long way with Mom. Of course, a Mom's Day Out - at the Spa is golden!

A day out, with my best friend, would be a wonderful number 2 on my list. Where we go is not as important as just sharing some time together, catching up on the news, and swapping "rough day" stories. We could do lunch at a charming restaurant. A walk in the park on a pretty day kills two birds with one stone. We would both get some exercise, as well as catch some hang time together. A leisurely shopping trip at the mall, on a slow day, is ideal, as well.

Next to spending time with my best bud, I love a Girl's Night Out, with the Soccer Moms. Gathering with gals for a game of bunco, is instant energy for the most tired mom. "Laughter is Good Medicine" is one of my favorite proverbs, and on a bunco night, the "good medicine" comes in an abundant supply.

Number four, on "Tired Mom's" shopping list, would be a date night with Dad. Call the sitter, and take mom to a quiet restaurant. Having an adult to share her day with can be very fulfilling for a mommy who was many demands during her busy day with the little ones. Some time alone with hubby is also a rare commodity for most moms. A weekly date night would be an admirable goal. A movie with Dad might also hit the spot for a tired mom who just wants to veg for a while.

There is one more "time gift' that you don't want to dismiss. For a mom with several children, a date night with just one, is a treasure that will be remembered for years to come. This is something that should be done with each child, at least once a year, if not more often. Sometimes, with all the hurry and scurry, one child gets left out. It is also hard to give individual attention to each precious little one, when there are several to share your time. This is an opportunity to build a relationship with one that needs Mom's attention. This may seem to be a gift for the child, but it is also a special gift for mom, too. Sometimes Moms feel guilty because they are pulled in so many directions and find it hard to focus on their needy child. Every child is needy at some time in his life, and it is a wise mom who discerns the need, and will take some time out to love on her little one.

There are some tangible gifts that any tired mom would welcome. My very favorite, number one tangible gift is chocolate! And not just any chocolate will do. Dark chocolate is the only way to go. There are several reasons for that. Number one is the health benefit. We now know that dark chocolate is good for your heart, and can put you in a happy mood, besides the fact that it tastes so good. Nothing says, I love you, to a woman, better than chocolate.
Another gift that no woman will turn down is a pretty pair of shoes. The main problem is, the pretty pair of shoes, has to be the pretty pair that mom picked out. So, a gift certificate to her favorite shoe store is your safest bet.

Right there, along with shoes, is the classic purse. Every mom would like one more purse. Again, you really need to give her the choice. And a purse shopping adventure, with a gift certificate, is an added bonus.

If spending big bucks is what you have in mind for mom, a new or newer vehicle is tops on her list. Mom spends multiple hours in the car, transporting kids from here to there, and back again. Those multiple hours in the car would be far more enjoyable in a vehicle that she loves. If mom no longer has tots in car seats, it may be time to trade in that mini-van for something a little smaller, to maneuver in and out of parking spaces. Make sure it has an automatic transmission, and an a/c. Gone are the days of stick shift fun for mom. Mom needs her hands free for every possible interruption, and the less mom has to think about the better.

The last, but definitely not least, excellent gift, for tired mom is a room makeover, or renovation. Every mom, especially, the stay at home mom, has a dream room, or rooms, that she wants to redo. Find out what renovation would make her life a little easier, and if it is within your budget, do it. We have a screened in back porch, which I would love to change to a Florida room, with windows in place of the screens. With a large family, more space is a commodity that is hard to come by in our home.

So, there you have it, the top ten gifts for any tired mom. I guarantee, any one of these ten gifts, would be welcomed with open arms, by the tired mom in your family, or in your circle of friends. Remember your tired mom, with gifts of time; alone, with friends and with loved ones. Also, remember her with tangible gifts, like chocolate, shoes, or the room of her dreams. Here are ten gifts any mother would love.

Make that goal!" That's one thing I do as a soccer mom of seven kids; busy bartering, generating income in my Antique Shop, and coordinating exchange students. One goal I've had, but haven't yet achieved, is...  View profile

Good job!, and amazing the author found the time to write this article, considering the sizable family and activity-involvement she has. Yet, judging by her enthusiastic writing, I bet this mom is not so much "Tired" as she is "Busy" (Top 10 gifts for the Busy Mom? lol)

Wow!! I couldn't have said it better myself. If I had to write an article on this same subject I would just cut & paste yours!!

Great article. I always tell my children that the gifts I want are not tangible -- time to do what you enjoy doing is rare for a mom of many! Thanks!
