Top Ten Graduation Songs of 2009

The Songs that Will Take You Back

Steven Diggs Jr.
Remember the person sitting next to you (or maybe it was you) at your college or high school graduation crying their eyes out? The "best times of their lives" are over, or at least that is what most people believe. I find that the best times of my life were after graduation, but I'll move on.
During the long, drawn-out speeches and students getting awards, songs are played. This list is dedicated to the top ten graduation songs of 2009. All the links go directly to the Amazon store.

10 - "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley

To me, "Rickrolling" is way over. Anytime I hear that song, I think that the Internet fad should have died a year or so ago. From time to time, it does pop back up and I can see someone "Rickrolling" their graduation.

9 - "Rockstar" by Nickelback

The name of the song says it all. Every graduate thinks this is the best day of their life. It some ways, it is as they should be congratulated so let them party like a rockstar afterwards.

8 - "It's My Life" by Jon Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi is as relevant as he was in the 80s. Teens still sing his songs and his catchy hooks. The catchy hook sums up everything that a graduate would think about. "It's my life/It's now or never/I ain't gonna live forever/I just want to live while I'm alive."

7 - "I Believe I Can Fly" by R. Kelly

Rising up and being the best person possible, this song is the kind that a graduate can stick their head up high. As their heads are high, their friends and relatives cheer them on. It sounds like something out of a cliche movie, but some people actually think that way.

6 - "Graduation (Friends Forever)" by Vitamin C

Reluctanly, I didn't want to put this song on here. I don't like it. It is awful. However, there are a lot of people out there that find the song very sentimental. I find it sappy. Vitamin C probably made the song just so she would have some song that will be around longer than her career.

5 - "Photograph" by Nickelback

Nickelback, everyone's favorite closet band, makes the list again. Their catchy songs and sappyness are displayed perfectly to their fans in this song. Memories, digital photographs, and awful MySpace images of the football team chugging down beers will be all that's left.

4 - "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" by R.E.M.

High school is a drag to most people. To some like the head cheerleader, it is the beginning of the crumbling of their social ladder. But you know what, the end of the world does not have to be bad.

3 - "School's Out" by Alice Cooper

This isn't the typical song when someone thinks of the good times of graduation, but for all the people that just wanted to get the heck out, it was their anthem.

2 - "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Green Day

A sentimental song that I actually like, comes in second. Being used as a montage for the last episode of Seinfeld, this song has a lot of personal feelings portrayed through Billie Joe Armstrong's awkward sounding voice.

1 - "Pomp and Circumstance"

How could this not be the number one song? This public domain song is the song used by practically every graduation in the U.S. A section of March No. 1 is the section used of this otherwise long. song. If this is heard anywhere whether it be on TV or if Macho Man Randy Savage makes his way to a wrestling ring, it will take you back to the day where you through your cap into the air.

There are literally thousands of other songs that could make this list, but I chose the ones that I thought portrayed graduation for 2009. Go out graduates with some class and try not to send stupid images to each other or you could get prosecuted or lose scholarships.Capturing the moments of youth.I can see someone "Rickrolling" their graduation.
