Harrison Ford to me is a great actor. His roles are well respected, and well thought out. I haven't seen him choose any movies that weren't worthy of him, at least not since I've been old enough to watch them. I never saw any of his movies in the 1960's, since I wasn't born yet. However, I actually was lucky enough to sit in the theatres when Star Wars first came out in the 1970's with my father. I had to sit on his lap because there weren't enough seats! I even saw a Star Wars theatre production in the Maryland Theatre later that year, and had my picture taken with Chewbacca.
Here are my choices for Harrison Ford's top ten movies:
1. Star Wars. Okay, so I am throwing some sentimentality into this pick. You guessed me right. However, this role was the one that claimed him to fame, and made him part of an unforgettable clan of actors and actresses who played a part in this six movie saga. As Hans Solo, he was my favorite actor most of the way through the 1970's, as I lived my childhood years.
2. Six Days, Seven Nights, from 1998. Well, for anyone who has read my article on the top ten cheating movies, you may feel I left one out. It had two with Harrison Ford. He has to leave some room for other people, for goodness sake. Well, in this movie, he is the half drunken plane owner who has to fly Anne Heche back to the mainland for business. Of course, the plane crashes and the two are stranded together to survive. Although Harrison and Anne do not cheat on their partners, their partners cheat on them while they're gone. I like the movie mainly for its humor between the two main characters, Ford and Heche.
3. Air Force One, from 1997. Okay, I can definitely see Harrison Ford as President. Especially with what we've seen lately of our own real President. I doubt Harrison would have chosen to send so many to war, and so often.
4. Crossing Over, in 2008. This movie was scheduled to be released in August of 2008, but this date was pushed back to October. I think the movie will be a great one. This shows another side of Harrison Ford that we have yet to see.
5. Apocolypse Now, from 1979. If you haven't seen this movie yet, it's a definite one you shouldn't miss out on.
6. American Graffiti, in 1973. No, I didn't catch this one in the theatres. It's a really great tale that offers an unexpected story. What I like most about this movie is the allstar cast, which includes Ron Howard and Richard Dreyfuss.
7. Raiders of the Lost Ark, 1981. There were many more in this series to follow, but I really enjoyed the original Indiana Jones movie the most. I prefer this to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Krystal Skull from 2008.
8. Witness, 1985. In this movie, Harrison Ford goes to live with an Amish family. The child of this family witnessed a crime, and Harrison needs to protect the family and the child so that the child can be a witness. It's a heartfelt story about two different backgrounds of people coming together. There's also an interesting love story.
9. Firewall, 2008. This is full of drama and suspense, as you would suspect with any Harrison Ford action film.
10. The Fuguitive, 1993.. I couldn't leave out this one, could I? We had to get Harrison Ford cleared from the accusation that he killed his wife. It was the one armed man, right?
Any other greats I left out?
