Drink more water
If you do not like the sound of tap water, you can always invest in a filter. Water is the perfect drink since it has no added sugars or artificial flavors. Your body needs water to continue with its most basic functions. If you deny your body water, you can end up with many serious medical problems.

Eat more fruit and Vegetables
An easy way to increase the amount of fiber in your diet is to eat right. You can do this by adding a fruit or a vegetable to every meal you eat. Eventually once your body has adjusted to the fiber amounts in your diet you can increase this to two at every meal. Next time you feel like grabbing a bag of chips you can feel good when you decide to take a nice juicy apple instead. Your body will get the necessary vitamins and minerals it needs to stay in the game.

Be Active
Children are suppose to stay active for at least an hour a day and adults should try to stick to this rule as well. As we get older, we seem to find more reasons why we cannot bring ourselves to muster up enough energy to get moving. Mostly we need to find things that are fun and get us moving. If the weather is especially bad, you can always find some way to move about indoors. Do not let the weather ruin your health!

Sleep 8 hours a night
Our bodies need sleep to reboot and many adults are not letting themselves get a full night of sleep. If you have problems falling asleep at night, you might need to start sending yourself to bed. You can start an hour before your bedtime with a relaxing routine. This can include whatever works best for you. You are more likely to be able to sleep after curling up with a good book or taking a long relaxing bath then obsessing over what needs to be done the next day. If you reduce your caffeine intake and you are still having issues you may want to talk to your doctor about more things you can do to help.

Brush your teeth
Experts agree that the health of our mouth is extremely important when it comes to the health of the rest of our body. While all personal hygiene is imperative to staying healthy brushing your teeth will leave a good lasting impression.

Have regular check ups
Your doctor can help you stay motivated to lower your risk for many diseases. They can also keep you up to date on your immunizations and screenings. The key to surviving many detrimental health issues is early detection and treatment.

Reduce your stress
We are all stressed at times but it can play a big role in our blood pressure. If you try to reduce the stress in your life you will be able to sleep better and have a lowered chance for developing serious medical conditions.

Lose weight
Many people in the United States are over weight and are suffering because of it. If you are over your BMI index you will want to talk to your doctor about how to lose that extra weight. You can usually do this by eating right, becoming more active, and make changes in your eating habits. If you eat well and you are still gaining weight you may want to bring up the possibility of running a few tests to make sure that it is not a more serious underlying medical condition.

Stop smoking
There are many health reasons to quit smoking so you should pick a date to quit as soon as you can. Start cutting down on the amount of cigarettes you consume as you get closer to your goal of not smoking. You can find many support groups to help encourage you through this and you can talk to your doctor before quitting. They have many ways to help you with replacement therapy may be the difference between you becoming a non-smoker and being a smoker. Of course after you quit you will have to stay away from all cigarettes since even the smell of the smoke can set off a craving. Do not worry if you fail at quitting since you can keep trying to quit you will succeed. If you cannot quit because you think your smoking is only ruining your health you are wrong. Smoking takes years off your life and the second hand smoke you produce can actually kill those around you.

Practice safety to prevent injuries
This is a way for you to take charge of your health every single day you may want to start practicing safety in many different areas of your life for example many people forget to practice food safety when preparing and storing their meals. Use smoke and carbon dioxide detectors on every level of your home so that if anything happens you will be aware of the situation. Run a test of the smoke detector every month and practice your family's safety plan when the alarm goes off. You should all know how to get out of the house and where to meet each other once they evacuate the building. Other helpful safety precautions may lead you to baby proof your house for your young children. You can do this by crawling around on your hands and knees to observe your home from their point of view. You will need to remove or repair anything that may cause harm to you or your child. As for practicing safety outside of the home you will want to be aware of your surroundings at all times. If you are ever in an emergency situation you should call 911 to receive help from your local police or fire departments.
