Top Ten Heroes Mysteries

William Meeks
Every Monday night (during the regular TV season) millions of Americans sit down in their living rooms and are transported into the world of Heroes. The over-arching mysteries of the show are responsible for its huge popularity. So what are these mysteries that everybody is talking about?

10. Who is in charge of The Company?

While several higher-ups in The Company have shown their faces on the show it is still unclear who's really in charge. Up until the tail end of the first season all signs pointed to Malcom McDowell's Linderman as the man pulling all the strings. With the assassination of several members of the original generation of heroes at the beginning of Season Two it's doubtful they are involved. The answer remains a mystery, though it's likely the mysterious CEO has yet to be introduced to the audience.

9. Is H.R.G. a good guy or a bad guy?

While it seems that Noah (aka H.R.G., short for Horn-Rimmed Glasses) is blindly devoted to his family it is unsure where his true allegiance lies. After all, it's hard to trust a man who lied to his family for a couple decades and turned his wife's brains to Swiss cheese to protect a secret. Claire might want to watch her back.

8. Are all of the Heroes related?

According to Suresh in voice-over narration in several episodes the heroes are all tied together by genetics? Is it simply a mutation or due they all share a common ancestor? If so, how gross are all those D.L./Nicky and Claire/West love scenes? Seems Tim Kring might be taking a page of The Empire Strikes Back.

7. What powers does the older generation have?

While it's been revealed they all have a power there has been little indication as to what the Heroes parents can actually do? The closest we've come is the amazing sword-fighting skills displayed by Hiro's dad in season one. Explaining the older generation's powers would show whether or not they can be passed on.

6. Is Mr. Petrelli really dead?

While they've only spoken about Mr. Petrelli on the show, he sounds like a force to be reckoned with. Not only was he so corrupt that both his sons were willing to testify against him, but he also had ties to Linderman, the man who could heal. Would Linderman really let his associate stay dead? And who's to say the senior Petrelli could even die? Many have theorized the Hiro's hero Kensai is actually a young Mr. Petrelli. If he does come back he'll surely have a power set all his own which would make the perfect setup for a two-on-one Oedipal-battle de jour

.

5. Does Suresh have powers?

Suresh's young sister was the original carrier of the dreaded virus, and the inspiration for his "father's research." This implies that she had a power. When they birthed him to save their daughter did they also pass on another "super-gene?"

3. Why don't people remember the atomic explosion above the city?

At the beginning of Season Two there is no reference to the explosive events about New York City in the Season One finale. In the current political climate an explosion in New York City would still be talked about years later, let alone the four months that passed between seasons. The writer's have implied in numerous interviews that this wasn't a mistake or a sin of omission. Did the Haitian take everybody's memories of the events? Was there a cover-up?

2. Which hero will get caught first?

With the amount of surveillance equipment in the modern world it's a certainty the one of the Heroes will be caught by a security or news camera eventually. Who will it be, and what will be the public reaction. Good bets are on Claire for her viral video creation in Season One or Nathan as a way to rebound from his short political career.

1. What's the deal with the eclipse?

It's in all the promotional material, at the beginning of every episode, and in feudal Japan. What is it about the eclipse that is so important? There has never been a textual reference to the eclipse in the show, but it has to be tied into the origins of the heroes. Whether it started a mutation, let off some weird cosmic energy, or just made it kind of dark for a bit in the afternoon remains to be seen.

While viewers are salivating for answers to these questions they needn't worry. Heroes creates as many questions as it answers on a weekly basis and should be entertaining them for many seasons to come.
