Top Ten Hitters in the Major Leagues in 2010

These Fearsome Tensome Will Have Opposing Pitchers Shaking on the Mound

Jim Kelly
With the exception of the steroid filled 1990's, baseball has usually revolved around great pitchers beating great hitters. A select few hitters have come out time and again throughout history to prove they are Hall of Fame worthy, but when they do, the fans know. As a big baseball fan, I am very into the mental aspect of hitting. I think within the past ten years a lot of teenage boys throughout America who live and breathe baseball have gone to special instruction to better themselves at the plate. The Major Leaguers are no exception.

Here is a list of the ten best hitters in the MLB for the 2010 season.

10. Chase Utley (Phillies)- If anyone watched the 2009 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies (which a record setting number of people did) they would know how dangerous a hitter Utley is especially against the best pitchers in the game.
9. Mark Teixiera (Yankees)- Teixiera is one of the more feared hitters in the game without any protection. This switch hitter with power is a fit for any manager. Batting in the three hole for the New York Yankees in front of Alex Rodriguez with a short porch in right at Yankee Stadium, makes Tex scary.
8. Hanley Rameriez (Marlins) - Easily the best shortstop in the game, he is literally a tier above everyone else skill wise. As one of the best hitters in a young Marlins lineup, look for Rameriez to get a lot more Intentional passes this year.
7. Miguel Cabrera (Tigers) - The clean up man for Detroit, Cabrera is coming off his best season yet at the age of 26. He is a big right handed bat smack in the middle of a vaunted Detroit lineup that will look to make the playoffs after falling just a tie breaker short last season.
6. Manny Rameriez (Dodgers)- Manny is getting older and 5 years ago he'd definitely be closer to the top, however, with the 50 game suspension last year and well his attitude, Manny drops a few spots on the list but is still one of the most feared hitters in the game.
5. Joe Mauer (Twins)- The Twins just signed their franchise player to a whipping $184 million deal which will keep Joe in Minneapolis until 2018. Mauer was the AL Batting Champ in 2009 and had his biggest power numbers since joining the league. Do not expect these numbers to decline.
4. Ryan Howard (Phillies)- Although he did not succeed in the 2009 World Series, Howard is still one of the most dangerous hitters around today. Reports surfaced earlier this month about the Phillies and the Cardinals swapping Howard and Pujols, which shows the value of Howard right there.
3. Alex Rodriguez (Yankees)- A-Rod is coming off his seventh 30 Home Run, 100 RBI season and will eclipse the 600 career Home Run mark mid-season. He got the proverbially 800 pound gorilla off his back with the 2009 World Series ring, and look for him to slug his way to at least two more appearances. The first one is always the hardest.
2. Prince Fielder (Brewers) - A surprise for most people who probably do not think he should be this high, maybe no even in the top ten, but Fielder had enormous hits late in the season that carried the Brewers and when the game is on the line he is one of the last guys you want to see in the batters box.
1. Albert Pujols (Cardinals)- Let's face it, he is a Hall of Fame lock, easily the best player in the league and a once in a generation type talent. My father used to brag to me about how he saw Mickey Mantle play when he was a kid, I'll be bragging to my children about how I saw Albert Pujols play. That's how good this man is.

Honorable Mention: David Ortiz (Red Sox), Evan Longoria (Rays), Justin Morneau (Twins), Jason Kubel (Twins), Jason Heyward (Braves), David Wright (Mets)
