Top Ten Holiday Kid's Movies

C. Phillips
In the midst of all the hustle and bustle this season it might be difficult to take the time to watch some of those standard holiday favorites with your kids. But don't let the time pass by without putting in some quality time sipping egg nog and enjoying the little things. Here are the top ten holiday kid's movies that everyone should have in their seasonal library.

1.How the Grinch Stole Christmas

I'm not talking about Jim Carey's version. This holiday kid's movie narrated by Boris Karloff has the spirit of Dr. Seuss written all over it. Who doesn't want to see if the Grinch slithering around festive trimmings while "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch" gives us a lyrical character analysis?

2.Frosty the Snowman

This is the cartoon version where Frosty delivers the famous line "Happy Birthday!" upon coming to life. It might be a little traumatic when he gets stuck in that greenhouse, but all is well in the end and he even gets a Ms. Frosty to hang out with.

3.Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

The stop-animation of this traditional red-nosed underdog's story gives it a unique quality. With memorable characters including the snow beast, the little elf aspiring to be a dentist, and of course Rudolph himself, this tale is retold with humorous flare.

4.A Charlie Brown Christmas

The peanut gang put on a play about the real meaning of Christmas in this brilliant cartoon. Charlie Brown is in charge of finding a tree for the play, but ends up being referred to as a 'block head' again when he shows up with a little twig. Despite the disappointments that material things may bring, Charlie Brown and the gang are reminded of what's important. Kids and parents alike will love this humorous and heart-felt return to the true meaning of Christmas in this great holiday kid's movie.

5.Muppet Family Christmas

What's Christmas without the Muppets? With appearances from a comedic snowman, a naïve turkey, and all of your favorite Muppets, Christmas at the 'farm house' is anything but quiet. Jim Hansen, the late creator of the Muppets, appears in the last scene of the show to get the dishes done while the other Muppets sing carols.

6.Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol
For those of you that don't remember Mr. Magoo, he's beyond belief. This little bald cartoon man is very near sighted, but miraculously manages to perform in a stage production of A Christmas Carol without bringing down the house (too soon anyway). Some of the songs in here are quite laughable, as all holiday kid's movies should be, and Scrooge comes through in the end with the biggest turkey that can be found for the dear old Cratchits.

7. Ernest Saves Christmas

Even if you didn't go for Ernest's slapstick humor in his other movies, Ernest Saves Christmas is his finest. There is an actual plot, and just seeing Jim Varney dress up as an old woman with a neck brace and walker (and be completely convincing!) is worth it all.

8. Garfield Christmas

This was a TV special that featured everyone's favorite lasagna-eating cat over at Jon's old homestead for the holidays. Garfield manages to do a few good deeds in his grumpiness and his trusty slobbering dog friend gives him a clever gift to remember.

9.Muppet Christmas Carol

The Muppet Christmas Carol is a very well done movie that parents can enjoy just as much as their children. Gonzo and his food-loving rat friend move the story forward in a compelling manner. The songs are well-done and the Muppets pull off another holiday classic must-have for your video library.

10.Mickey's Christmas Carol

You can never have enough renditions of Dicken's famously rushed story. Disney's take is a great showing and kids love seeing Scrooge McDuck's once in a lifetime change of heart.
