Mrs. Renee

When it comes to recycling there are some of us that stick to the basics, and others who try to recycle just about everything they can. If you are not sure what you can and can not recycle below is a list of the top ten things you can add to your list.

Plastic

Many already have plastic on their list of recyclable items. Everything from water bottles to storage containers can be recycled. Most garbage facilitates have special bins for plastic items as well.

Aluminum cans

Aluminum cans is another popular item that gets recycled on a daily basis. Setting up a separate garbage can for all of your aluminum cans will help to keep the entire family on the same page when tit comes to recycling your items.

Cardboard

When it comes to boxes let's face it a lot of them tend to enter our home on a weekly basis. A lot of food items such as cereal, and even oatmeal comes in boxes. They can pile up very quickly. What many choose to do is flatten all of their boxes pile them up, and stack them. Then they tie them up and put them out on the curb on the appropriate day.

Newspaper and regular paper

A lot of families are now choosing to go paperless, in their lives. Many are not getting as many bills delivered to their home, and are just going digital. This helps to cut down on the amount of paper coming into a home. It does not eliminate it however, especially if you get your newspaper delivered on a daily basis.

Glass

There are not as many items made out of glass as their used to be. Now it seems that plastic has replaced this. Setting up a separate bin for glass items however can prove to be helpful, so that you can keep it out of the regular garbage pile.

Clothing

If your clothes, or your child's clothes are no longer in good shape it only makes sense to throw them out. If however you find that they are still in good shape but just don't fit anymore, than it is time to get rid of them, but by recycling them. When it comes to recycling clothes this does not mean that you have to put them in one of those big red storage containers. Instead you can pass them along to family and friends first, or donate them. This will ensure that they will be used again by those in the most need.

Furniture

Sometimes families choose to get rid of furniture simply because it does not fit their needs anymore. If this is the case in your home, why not recycle your furniture. This can be done by giving your furniture to a family in need or simply donating it.

Computers

Each year it seems that they come out with some sort of computer upgrade. Many take advantage and change the type of computer they have. Instead of just throwing your old computer in the garbage you can recycle it. Some stores will take your old computer, for a discount off of your new computer. Or you can donate it. Just make sure you scrub the computer's memory so that none of your personal information is left on it.

Cell phones

Cell phones are certainly one of the biggest recyclable items. There are just so many of them, that it is easy to forget about recycling and just throw the old one away. There are plenty of organizations that take old cell phones to give to those in need. Also your cellphone company may take old cell phones as well. Be sure to check all of your options, before throwing your phone away.

Toys

At some point your kids will outgrow the mound of toys they have cluttering up your home. When they have outgrown them, you can donate them, or give them away. Just make sure that the toys are all in one piece first.
