Top Ten Memorable VMA Moments - from Britney Spears to Madonna

With all the talk of Britney Spears' performance on MTV's 2007 Video Music Awards, I couldn't help but remember a few other memorable instances that have occurred over the years at the VMAs. Here's a look back at some of the more memorable events and performances at the infamous VMAs.

1. Madonna Sings Like A Virgin (1984) - Madonna's wedding dress crawl has become somewhat iconic since she first rolled across the VMA stage in 1984. It was unique, sexy and helped propel Madonna into MTV super-stardom.

2. Rage Against The Machine Bassist Loses It (1992) - As Limp Bizkit accepted an award for Best Rock Video, Rage bassist Tim Commerford decided it was a good time to jump on stage and climb the set fixtures. A bewildered Fred Durst and company watched as security rushed on stage to remove Commerford. The only after party Commerford was able to attend that night was the one that took place in his holding cell.

3. Diana Ross Makes a Grab for Lil' Kim's boob (1999) - It was such an odd reaction to Lil Kim's over-the-top outfit that for a second there, we weren't sure if it was actually happening. But it did and we're still talking about it.

4. Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley Share a Kiss (1994) - They were the oddball couple of the year in 1994 and no one was quite sure if it was real or just an elaborate publicity stunt. To seemingly put the naysayers at bay, the couple shared a public kiss on the VMA stage which only seemed to ignite more speculation.

5. Nirvana Bassist Krist Novoselic Hits Himself in the Face with His Guitar (1992) - This is a perennial favorite. Performing "Lithium," Novoselic gets a little too into the performance, throws his bass in the air and smacks himself in the head. You'd usually only find this type of thing on America's Funniest Home Videos, but here you get an awesome performance thrown in with the antics.

6. Courtney Love Crashes Madonna's Post-Show Interview (1995) - A completely surreal moment in VMA history. As Madonna is talking about her upcoming album of ballads, something goes flying past her face. Turns out, it's Courtney Love's compact. Courtney then crashes the interview, taking Kurt Loder's seat and bewildering Madonna and the rest of the viewing audience.

7. Britney Strips Down to Nearly Nothing (2000) - Back when Britney was still just a teen pop idol and not the tabloid sensation she is today, this little performance of The Rolling Stones "Satisfaction" paired with "Oops! I Did It Again" had parents hopping mad.

8. Michael Jackson Accepts "Artist of the Millennium Award" (2002) - Perhaps one of the most uncomfortable moments in VMA history, a confused Michael Jackson accepts an award presented to him for his birthday and is under the impression that it's an award for "Artist of the Millennium." Even those watching from home were twisting in their seats with discomfort.

9. Prince Bares All (1991) - Prince shocked the VMA crowd while performing "Get Off" when he turned around and revealed that, surprise, the seat of his pants had apparently went missing.

10. Britney, Christina and Madonna Share a Kiss (2003) - What else could get tongues wagging other than, well, a little tongue wagging? This threesome made headlines and was surely the topic around many a watercooler the next morning.

Perhaps, since the VMAs are so keen on upstaging themselves year after year, they could really shock us by not trying to shock us at all? Nah. What fun would that be?
