Military schools are available for all ages, and here are some of the best for ages ranging from sixth grade to college level.

1. The Citadel: The Military College of South Carolina-- Private/State College Level Military Academy -- Located in Charleston, SC, The Citadel was founded in 1842 and has a student body of 2000 male and female undergraduate students and 1000 graduate students. Students study under a classical military system, which emphasizes leadership and character training. www.citadel.edu

2. The United States Military Academy at West Point -- Federal Service Academy -- Located in West Point, NY, West Point has a student body of almost 4500. Cadets are immersed into an intellectually, physically and socially stimulating world. All students earn a Bachelor of Science degree and upon graduation, are qualified to be leaders in the Army. www.usma.edu

3. U.S. Air Force Academy Colorado Springs -- Federal Service Academy -- The Air Force Academy is a military organization as well as a university. While much of the Academy is set up like most other Air Force bases, especially the 10th Air Base Wing, the superintendent, commandment, dean of faculty, and the 4400 strong cadet wing, resemble a civilian university.www.usafa.af.mil

4. United States Naval Academy --Federal Service Academy -- Located in Annapolis, MD, the USNA was founded in 1845 by George Bancroft, who was the Secretary of the Navy. The purpose of the USNA is to shape and develop midshipmen "morally, mentally and physically." www.usana.edu

United States Coast Guard Academy -- Federal Service Academy -- The Coast Guard is the smallest branch of the United States military, but the Academy, which was founded in 1876 aboard the schooner Dobbin, is highly selective. As of July 2009, 973 cadets were enrolled, with women making up 27 percent of the population, and minorities accounting for 15 percent. Located in New London, CT, the Academy is tuition free, but graduates are obligated to serve five years in the U.S Coast Guard. www.cga.edu

6. United States Merchant Marine Academy -- Federal Service Academy -- Located in Kings Point, NY, the Academy became the first federal service academy to enroll women students in 1974. The Academy prepares students to receive a bachelor of science degree, a merchant marine license, and an appointment as a commissioned officer on reserve or active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. www.usmma.edu

7. Army and Navy Academy -- Private College Prep Military School -- Located in Carlsbad, CA, the Academy is a college prep school with a student to faculty ration of 15:1. Typically, 90 to 95 percent of graduates go on to colleges and universities. 8. LaSalle Institute -- Private College Prep Military School -- Located in Troy, New York, this Catholic school educates boys in grades six through twelve. 9. Philadelphia Military Academy -- Public Military School -- Located in Philadelphia, PA, the Academy challenges young men and women through a rigorous academic program and R.O.T. C. training designed to develop qualities such as leadership and character. 10. Virginia Military Institute -- Private State College-Level Military Academy -- Located in Lexington, VA, the Institute immerses cadets into a military style life.
