10."Nobody puts baby in a corner." - Dirty Dancing
I was just a wee little bit of an aspiring authoress, when "Dirty Dancing" came out. When Johnny stormed into that hall, and pulled Baby out of her seat, I wanted to be her. And not because I wanted to dance with Patrick Swayze, it was because I wanted to get up and dance to "Time of My Life." But still, the message of that quote was clear: Nobody puts Baby in a corner.
9. "I made 'em extra sloppy for ya's." - Billy Madison
I had to include this quote. The other day I was at work, and one of my coworkers just said this to me at random. I instantly smiled because I knew exactly where this movie quote came from. I said this to my husband at random and he knew where it came from. And I'm sure as you're reading this you're smiling because like me, you're thinking of the lunch lady scene where she's slopping the sandwiches at random onto trays. This may be an out there quote, but I had to include it.
8. "Superstar" - Superstar
Molly Shannon is brilliant in her SNL character, Catholic schoolgirl, and underdog, Mary Catherine Gallagher. And the way she belts out "Superstar" can never be duplicated by anyone - even me- though I have tried.
7. "Oh Behave!"
How many great "Austinisms" came out of the "Austin Powers" trilogy? A few. But the best time quote has to be Mike Myers, complete in his Austin Powers garb admonishing you to "behave" whether it's the first time in "Man of Mystery" or the last time he says it in "Goldmember."
And yes, I have a thing for former SNL cast members. They make some great movies!!
6. I am in a dress. I have gel in my hair.I haven't slept all night. I am starved and I am armed. Don't mess wth me." - Miss Congeniality
"Miss Congeniality" has always been one of my favorite movies for the simple reason that I think the opportunity to run amuck in a beauty pageant as an undercover cop would just be the coolest thing ever.
This perfectly timed, and accurate movie quote is truly one of the most brilliant quotes ever.
5."Gentleman, you can't fight in here. This is the war room." - Dr. Strangelove
I have a confession to make. I have never seen Dr. Strangelove. However even I could appreciate the irony of not fighting in a war room.
4. "I'll have what she's having."
Harry has met Sally. Sally and Harry are having lunch. Sally and Harry get into a discussion about fake orgasms. Sally chooses to fake one right there to prove her point, complete with loud moans, heavy breathing, and hands banging the table, gathering the attention of the whole delicatessen.
Then a nearby patron deadpans that great quote. To quote Sally, "Yes,, yes.. yes!!!!"
3. "May the force be with you" -Star Wars.
Anyone who hasn't quoted this euphemism at some point in your life, stand on your head. You know you've done it. So has everyone else. "May the force be with you."
2. "Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine". - Casablanca
There was also a debate for the number 2 spot on my list of movie quotes, which is ironic because Casablanca is my second favorite all time movie. Rick (Humphrey Bogart) uttered this movie quote after Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) walked into his bar. He's still in love with her and has never recovered. Why is this a problem? Ilsa shows up with her husband. These words are brilliant at expressing what anyone in his position would feel.
Of course this was also tough, as I also love the movie quote where Ilsa says "Play it again Sam. Play "As Time Goes By." This movie quote is probably the most misquoted of all time as everyone always thinks of it as "Play it again Sam." You heard it, er, read it here, ladies and gents, that is not what she said. The film truth has set you free.
1."Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." - Gone With The Wind
Ohhh my goodness did he say the d - word? Yes, he did. As he swept out of the door and out of Scarlett O'Hara's life, it caused quite the controversy. In fact they tried other lines with other words, but nothing had quite the same impact.
This made my top all time quote because this is by far the most memorable movie quote from my all time favorite movie. It was tough pickings. After all, there was also the "As God as my witness speech," when Scarlett has just arrived home to Tara and everything is in shambles as she stands there, vowing to get through the Yankee's destruction.
There's also the argument for the scene when Melanie is about to have her baby, and Scarlett tells Prissy she'll have to do it, since she's done it "lots and lots." Then Prissy spills out the line "I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' babies. Ma never let me in the room when folks was havin' em." That movie quote is also arguably the best from this movie.

Post a CommentI loved reading those! It made me remember all the movies that they are from
Obviously a little more girlie list than mine :-) Love the fact you put Austin Powers in there as well. But there's so many I had to leave out. And it's not because I'm a man that I can't enjoy Casablanca. Dirty Dancing would be pushing it a it too much though..... Nice list!
And the best part of that quote from Harry and Sally is that the woman who spoke it is actually Estelle Reinter the mother of Rob Reiner, the film's director.
