Top Ten Muscle Cars of All Times

David C. Atkin
In this article I will work through what the top 10 muscle cars are in my opinion, this is by no means word of god, this is quite simply one muscle car guy chatting another muscle car guy, and as we chat we discuss out top favourite muscle cars.

Since I'm such a huge camaro guy, the top of my list will be starting with the 1969 ZL1 camaro, and will end up with the newest modern muscle cars on the market today, I will give you the reason why these cars are the top of my list, and why they will always be there.

1.1969 ZL1 Camaro, to start with this car is simply, there has never been another camaro that had quite the quarter mile prowess of the ZL1 camaro, but at the same time had decent handling also, due to the fact the it's 427 big block engine was an all aluminium one, that weighed about the same as a small block.

Not to mention the rarity of the car, there were only sixty nine of them ever built, they were high horsepower road warriors that could take don the best of the muscle cars, these cars were truly some of the best muscle cars ever built, and no doubt may favourite.

2.Next up is the 1970 Buick GSX stage 1 car, this car held the record for the highest horsepower until 1992 when Dodge introduced the Viper, you've got to admit to hold that record for twenty two years is quite a feat, and just as the car above they built a very limited number of these cars.

With the 455 power plant installed under the hood, and the knowledge to make the GSX one of the best of all times Buick set out on a muscle car journey, one that would create one of the best muscle cars ever built, one that would go down in history as one of the best.

3.1970 Hemi Charger, the Dodge Charger was a mid sized muscle car, that in my opinion took the best of everything that Dodge had at the time and put it in to one car, they designed what was one of the most perfect bodies on a car at that time.

The they stuffed a 426 Hemi in it, the Hemi was one of the most potent engines ever built, some people say that it was the most potent engine ever built, all though I don't agree with this, it is certainly in the top three engines ever built.

4.1970 GTO Judge, this car was the cream of the crop for the Pontiac motor company, it was designed to do battle with the 1970 LS6 Chevelle, and it held it's own in this battle, and is an extremely rare car to see these days

It came from the factory with a 455 CID engine stuffed between the front fenders, a fire breathing engine that was always ready to do business, and was very capable of winning most cars that it would come up against on the street.

5.1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS 6, this car was a true quarter mile beast, with the styling of the car and the 454 CID 450 HP engine under the hood it was quite capable of winning any race that it would find it's self in, with the SS model came two racing stripes that just set the car off.

Between the styling of this cat and the power that it had it developed one of the best followings of any of the Chevrolet line of muscle cars.

6.1966 Ford AC Cobra, this car was another very rare car, if you can even find one of these cars you'll pay in the neighborhood of two million dollars for it, it came from the factory with a factory installed 427 engine.

It was tested by some of the magazines from that time with a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds, and 0-100 and back of seven seconds, this car was the true definition of a muscle car of the 1960s.

7.1967 L88 Corvette, this car was rated at a scant 435 horsepower, but when dynoed it was putting out more in the neighborhood of six hundred eighty horsepower, the dealers of the time under rated cars so they could insure them while on their lots.

In 1966 the L88 Corvette took first and second places in the twenty four hours of Dytona road race, beating out cars like the Jaguar, Porsche, and other import builders, and sealed a place in the history books.

8.The 1967 Shellby GT 500, defiantly one of Ford's great contributions to the muscle car world, with a 0-60 time of a scant six second, it came with a factory installed 428 Cobra-Jet engine.

Between the styling of the body on the car, and the power plant that Ford stuffed between the front fenders, it made this car one of the most formidable cars ever built, while also being one of the prettiest muscle cars ever built.

9.The 2010 SS Camaro, Chevrolet really listened to the people when they designed this car, they could have released it one year earlier though, at this time it's the quickest factory quarter mile car on the market.

The SS Camaro with the standard transmission is a very capable performance car, form the factory it's 6.2 Liter engine dispenses 426 horsepower, and runs 0-60 in a scant 5.0 seconds, while spanking all of it's competition.

10.The 2010 Dodge Challenger, this car is a true through back to the 1970 Dodge charger, but with all of the modern technology that a person would expect from a new car.

The Dodge Challenger is rated at 425 horsepower, and this number is delivered from a modern 6.1 Liter SRT V8 engine, with a six speed standard is a staple for the true muscle car freak, along with all of the modern goodies, Dodge done a great job here.

I respect your opinion about some of these cars (I don't agree with the order, however) but seriously the 2010 Chevy Camaro?!?

The new camaro looks...nice(?).. and performs great however I don't think it should be considered a muscle car.

A classy sports car, sure, but a muscle car.. I don't think so.

GTO Judge was produced in 1970, and was available with the Ram-Air 3 455, witch is exactly the car that I talk about in this article.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the GTO "judge" was only a trim option. Actually only produced in 1969. It came it a H.O. 455, and 2 four barrel carberateurs.
