Must See DVD Movies for Summer of 2010

Christi Bowers
Watching movies this summer on DVD is one way to spend a relaxing evening with friends or family. There are many recently released DVD's to watch during the summer of 2010. This article will show you my choice for the top ten movies to watch for the summer of 2010.

1. Surrogates (2009). This movie is action packed and stars Bruce Willis. This is one of the best written films I have seen this year, if not the best story of the year. This is a futuristic movie, where people don't actually live their lives, but send surrogates out into the world to live for them. The idea came about probably due to people's fears of being injured or killed, so the surrogate can work and live for the person. The surrogate may look just like the real person, or be someone totally different. I find this very interesting and a real idea of what could happen in the future. The suspension of disbelief lasts throughout the movie. The movie has remnants of Vanilla Sky, where a person sees the future they way they want instead of in reality, and The Matrix, where humans don't see reality anymore but their lives through the computer matrix.

2. Avatar (2009). Avatar is written and directed by James Cameron, who directed Titanic, so you know it's going to be a good movie. The plot involves a marine who goes to another planet to become an avatar. The movie is animated, and is considered a sci-fi action flick. The special effects made it a superb movie to view in theatres, but if you have a high definition television or even a decent screen, it will be worth viewing at home.

3. A Perfect Getaway (2009). If you like Milla Jovovich in the Resident Evil movies, you will love seeing her in this movie. This is a movie about a couple who are on their honeymoon in Hawaii. Well, you can imagine that things aren't going to go as planned, when the couple runs into two killers who start to stalk them. Great, just what the two wanted during their time alone as newlyweds. This movie sets the theme for a great summer horror flick.

4. It's Complicated (2009). If you're looking for three classic movie stars in one movie, watch this recently released DVD starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. This is about a divorced couple who run into each other at their son's college graduation, and end up having sex. Guess what happens next. Well, it's complicated! This is a fun romantic comedy to watch during the summer of 2010.

5. Invictus (2009). Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman team up in this recently released movie to show the story of Nelson Mandela using the soccer World Cup in 1995 as a way to get his people back together after the end of apartheid. This movie is based on a true story, and is a sports movie directed by Clint Eastwood!

6. Old Dogs (2009). Well, they aren't really dogs, they're two actors that have been around for awhile. Here's another all star cast with John Travolta and Robin Williams as two business partners who get sidetracked when they end up with two six year olds to care for. Travolta's wife Kelly Preston plays in the movie as well. This is a fun comedy to see on DVD in the summer of 2010.

7. Impact (2009). If you're looking for a flic about devastation and saving the planet, Impact is for you. This movie is about an asteroid that hits the moon, sending debris to the earth. The debris isn't big enough to do serious damage, but the electromagnetic effects just might have serious consequences.

8. Public Enemies (2009). Don't forget about Johnny Depp! The summer wouldn't be the same without him. Here, he is a criminal in the Great Depression era, with the FBI trying to stop him.

9. Night at the Museum 2 (2009). We return to exhibits coming to life with Ben Still as the night watchman, but this time he's working at the Smithsonian. This is a comedic sequel to the original Night at the Museum that also starred Ben Stiller. This is a more easy-going, no need to think type movie to watch on a relaxing summer evening.

10. Funny People (2009). Adam Sandler stars, as a comedian who finds out some bad news at the doctor's office. He may have to rethink his priorities, including how he treats people. Maybe he's not so funny after all.

What are some DVD rentals you'd like to see this summer of 2010?
