Top Ten Parenting AC Content of 2006

Renee Bodkin
Parenting is such a diverse and important topic today. Associated Content is lucky to have numerous experts in the area of parenting writing for them! Here are ten of the best parenting articles of 2006 on AC.

1. The Tao of Sesame Street authored by Afton Nelson is possibly one of my most favorite articles on AC. The truth and honesty of a day in the life of a mom and the innocence of children intertwined with the classic Sesame Street moment is genius. This is a must read on AC for everyone. You don't have to be a parent to love this piece of writing.

2. Baby Bootcamp: What No One Tells You About Your First Baby - An article written by first time mom, Stephanie Guidry, with less than a year under her belt as a mommy, she has the humor aspect of parenting down to a "T". The reality of parenting is sometimes harsh but in the end 200% worth it. This is a fun and truthful article for any parent or anyone considering parenting.

3. Raising Reading Children - Marsh Raasch hits a homer with this article about the importance of reading in the lives of children. This is a perfect resource for incorporating reading into the lives of children of all ages. Parents need to do as much as they can to help their children become avid readers.

4. Is a Clean House Possible with Toddlers? - Jennifer Cruz provides some great tips for parents to keeping a clean house and their sanity with children. I can attest to what she says about having a kid-friendly home while balancing cleanliness and clutter. Organization and a schedule are great tips! If you're battling toys and clutter read this article (and know you're not alone)!

5. Guide to Finding Parenting Information On-line - Heather Shockney provides some great websites and resources online for parenting. Parenting is quite possibly one of the most challenging jobs one will ever have. It's great to have resources and information at your fingertips.

6. Parent or Participant - Demetria Keys authors a well-written article about her parents and how they raised her well. Too often we see parents who befriend their children and condone behavior and actions that are not appropriate for children. Ms. Keys honors her parents and the job they did stressing values and morals. What a great tribute to parents who did their job well!

7. Co-Parenting: The Best of Dual Households by Valencia Higuera is an informative piece written for parents who reside in separate households. The author stresses the importance of working together and maintaining consistancy between the households. Great tips are provided. A good read for parents who are in this situation.

8. Discipline and Your Young Child! - A. Ormont wrote a clear and concise article that is helpful and informative to most parents about discipline. The article defines the word discipline and explains that it is different from punishment. Some discipline techniques include: consequences, re-direction, and time out. Nine other tips for parents regarding discipline and parenting are listed. A great resource!

9. In the Trenches - Parenting Difficult and Challenging Teens - Kory Rodley Irons writes about her experience raising teens. I think this article is even more pertinent because it references another great AC article - two for one!! I can't even fathom my life when my 3 boys are teens but I'll be better prepared keeping these tips in mind.

10. Parenting Tips, Childrearing Tips for New ParentsNew Mommy Advice - Parenting Tips for Mom and Parenting Tips for New Mommies (and Daddies Too) are all articles that I wrote. Maybe this is self-promotion but I truly think my collection of parenting tips is great!! I pride myself in being a "baby expert" since I had three little ones over the course of four years. I love that I can share my experiences and hope that readers will benefit!

Thanks for including my article Renee. I have to say, I don't know if it belongs in the same category as these other truly helpful parenting articles, but it will at least let a new parent know what kinds of things they might expect from their own kids. And maybe a few will take the precaution of getting a lock for their fridge!
