Top Ten Quotes from Star Wars: A New Hope

Who hasn't seen the original Star Wars: A New Hope? It's a movie constantly quoted in circles of friends and in pop culture. While there are lots of great quotes from it, here are my favorite one-liners from Star Wars.

"We seem to be made to suffer. It's out lot in life." C-3PO says this to his little robot counterpart, R2-D2, when they're in the desert of Tatooine.

"Mos Eisley spaceport: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy." Obi-Wan Kenobi says this to Luke Skywalker regarding a place they're going to find a pilot to take them to Alderaan. Mos Eisley indeed proves to be a wretched hive - there's a lightsaber amputation soon afterward.

"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Once Obi-Wan and Luke find a pilot, Han Solo, they leave Tatooine. Luke starts learning about the Force, and Han has this to say about it.

"That's no moon. It's a space station!" Obi-Wan says this when Han solo's spaceship, the Millennium Falcon, is approaching what Solo says is a moon. This is probably the most common phrase that people repeat from Star Wars - I knew it before I had ever seen the movie.

"I have a very bad feeling about this." While approaching the space station, which we learn is the Death Star, Luke says this, but throughout the Star Wars trilogy different characters say this line, and are usually correct in their trepidation.

"Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?" When Luke bursts into the holding cell Princess Leia is being kept in, he's in a Stormtrooper disguise, and she has this snarky comment to throw at him, before she learns he's there to rescue her.

"Get in there, you big furry oaf! I don't care what you smell!" The group finds themselves needing to escape the detention block, and the only way out appears to be a garbage chute. Chewbacca the Wookiee, who presumably has better-than-human olfactory senses, really doesn't want to go, but Han orders him in anyway.

"You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought." Princess Leia says this when she first sees the Millennium Falcon. Solo is always getting harangued about his ship not looking like much, but it saves the day more than once.

"The Force is strong with this one." As Luke is trying to blow up the Death Star, Vader takes to his TIE Fighter to intercept the rebel ships. As he's trying to shoot Luke down he makes this comment.

"Great shot, kid, that was one in a million!" Luke succeeds in firing his proton torpedo into the exhaust port on the Death Star with the help of the Force, once Han Solo gets the enemy fighters off his tail. A victory to end the first installment of Star Wars!
