Top Ten Reasons the NCAA Tournament Must Be Expanded

Sometimes drastic changes must be made to make an already great thing even better. It's the natural progression of the world. Key examples include I can't believe it's not butter, cars with built in computers, cute girls with huge implants, and other countless enhanced products nobody asked for, but still accepted. College Basketball is no different.

Purists say adding an extra 30 or so teams to the NCAA tournament will dilute the field. Purists are silly goobers who probably got wedgies from the school bully every day as kids. Purists in any sport tend to do nothing more than complain about everything.

This whole diluting the field argument only applies to the women's tournament. They only have a handful of good teams, and one unstoppable juggernaut team. Everybody else who qualifies for their tournament are nothing more than potential casualties.

It's different in the men's game. Every school has the ability to recruit an NBA wannabe, regardless of location. These kids know that scouts will find them if they are good enough. If the coaches are anti social weirdos who lack basic communication skills, only then will they fail to get decent players.

First reason why the tournament should be expanded: People love filler. It doesn't matter that a 16 seed has never beaten a 1. More lop sided games like that equal ratings. If there was a network that featured Bjork explaining what happens when paint drys on a wall, people would sit down every night to watch it.

Why would they watch scrubs go against top tier teams? Reason two explains it perfectly: Brackets. These things are Americas true pass time. I know people who don't even watch basketball who took time to fill out a few brackets this year. Oversized brackets are what this wonderful nation needs to get through this amazingly depressing recession, and bring about unity for all Americans.

Wait, can Brackets really help the nation out that much? Heck yeah it can, because of reason three: More upsets. Underdogs coming out of nowhere to lay the smack down on great teams is something that people can't get enough of. Everyone was chomping at the bit to see Duke go down in flames as the weakest number one seen this year, but Kansas turned out to be the weakest link.

I still don't know what exactly a J Hawk is, but I do know reason four of why the NCAA tournament has to be expanded is the absolute truest thing I'll type out this year. Excess is king. This is why basketball players sport the oversized shorts instead of the short shorts. This is why you can eat at a restaurant buffet style. More is always seen as better.

Reason Five : Major League Baseball. MLB has a stupidly long regular season. It's 162 games long. At one point, it was a bit shorter than that. That means someone saw that it was already taking forever to get to the playoffs, but said " You know what, lets make this already agonizingly long road that much longer." If Baseball purists(the most bitter of all purists) didn't have a problem with this, why do the college basketball purists have their panties in a bunch?

Okay, so I'm sure not all purists wear panties. All I know is, reason six says ticking them off is a good thing. I'm under the impression that when a purist days it's bad, it's actually good. Getting the call right in baseball by using instant replay is a good thing. why? because I don't like seeing chubby umpires who squint all the time, getting the call wrong because he needs glasses but is too stubborn to admit to it.

I don't even bother watching regular season baseball. Same with college basketball actually. Reason seven as to why adding more teams to NCAA's post season thingy needs to happen: More basketball. How cool would it be if the college tournament lasted until the NBA playoffs started? Extremely cool is the only correct answer to that question.

Speaking of the National Basketball Association, The Clippers come in as reason eight to open up the field a bit more. Los Angeles only has one legitimate pro basketball team. The Clippers don't count. they should be granted an automatic bid in the tournament. Make them a bonus one seed, and you have a guaranteed upset installed by default every year!

Reason Nine, blah blah blah, is a four word answer: Even number of teams. The play in game was an absolute joke. Everyone can agree with that How we have a mini round of games that don't really fit in with the tourney. How can you be too good for the NIT, yet suck enough to not be worthy of a guaranteed spot in the bracket? That just doesn't add up.

Finally, the all mighty dollar is the tenth and final reason to expand the NCAA basketball tournament. Granted, the dollar isn't all that mighty at this point in time. Because of that, a lucrative television deal involving ESPN and a few other networks is that much more important to the NCAA. If they were to fall on hard times, what makes you think they wouldn't adopt a lame bowl system like they have with college football? There's nothing "pure" about that, eh?
