Top Ten Reasons Why Conservatives Are Wrong

Gino Sabato
So it's been almost a decade since George W. Bush took office and even after his departure the footprint of the political right is still tainting everything. Most people have realized that the conservative ideology is wrong but many are not sure why. These are my top ten reasons why the Republicans and the conservative movement are dead wrong.

Cutting Taxes For The Wealthy

This is quite possibly the most ridicules idea government has ever come up with. Those with more money should pay more taxes. In a functional society the strong need to help the weak to rise above their station in life. This how we have become such a strong people. This concept has gone to the wayside in the past two decades and it has only proved to hurt society as a whole.

Legislating Morality

Republicans love to tell us that they believe is a small non-powerful Federal Government yet everything they do contradicts this outlook. With the exception of allowing a few large businesses complete freedom to do as they please the Republican doctrine has stood for a large bloated Federal Government that legislated morality on almost every issue imaginable. From gay marriage to legalized marijuana smoking and especially abortion the Republicans would like to tell you exactly what you can and can't do.

Peace Through War

A long held Republican idea is that we can only achieve peace through military action. While in some instances this is true the far right takes the concept of self preservation to a whole new level. If we are attacked we have a right to not only defend ourselves but a right to eliminate the problem for ever. However, it is irresponsible to think we are so powerful we can stand up to the whole world. Parents have been telling children to pick and choose their battles for as long as their have been parents and children. Republicans missed the concept somewhere along the line.

Denial of Global Warming

The far right really believes that God will destroy the Earth not humans. While guess what? Polar ice is melting faster and faster every year and there is a definite trend towards global warming. This is a fact. There is no argument about the existence of global warming. There is however a debate as to the cause of global warming. This should be the only debate. The idea that we can do whatever we want to the Earth with no repercussion is just plain stupid.

Gun Control

The right to keep and bear arms is as real as any other right given us by the Constitution. It needs to be considered that when this Amendment was written guns consisted of muzzle loaded short range long arms and pistols. Of course with technological advancements we have much more sophisticated and deadly weapons today. The Republican idea that Government has no right to legislate which firearms are available to the public is insane. No private citizen requires assault weapons of fully automatic weapons of any kind. Keeping the right to bear arms is important to our political freedom but only to the point that it positively effects society rather than harms it.

Social Program Cuts

Social programs are important to a healthy society. While our current social programs are abused and costly the Republican idea of cutting these programs and replacing them with little or nothing is dangerous to society as a whole. We need to help the old and sick. Cutting programs that help feed the hungry and house the homeless just leads to bigger problems all around. It is important for Government to help those that want it learn a trade so they can stand on their own two feet. This only strengthens us as a people.

Integration of God and Government

God has no part in Government just as Government has no part in religion. To bring God into Government goes against the basic right given us by the Constitution. By allowing religious ideas to influence legislation we are no better than Islamic extremest that cause so much unrest in the world. While we all have the right to choose our religion if any and the Government needs to uphold that right, scripture has no place in any branch of Government.

Spreading Democracy

This is a lovely idea and Republicans have been pitching it for decades. On the surface it sounds wonderful, because we love democracy and freedom. However, there are some in the world that do not hold the same values that we do. It is neither our place or our right to forcefully institute what we consider to be the right way to do things. By pushing Democracy with military force we are really not better than Hitler, Stalin or Mao. We have enough of our own problems we have no business spreading our ideals to those that have no desire to hear them.

Ignoring The Constitution

The Constitution grants several rights and all others that are not prohibited or given in the Constitution are up the states. Not only do the Republicans love to enforce unconstitutional laws they love to break the laws that the Constitution legally spell out. Illegal search and seizure, freedom of speech, etc... are all ignored in the name of national security. The act of ignoring these basic rights is a threat to national security in and of itself.

Lies

Republicans have been telling us their version of the truth for years. The problem is that they are wrong more often than they are right. Wars have been started over lies, basic human rights have been discarded based on lies, and even worse powers have been given to the President that are not spelled out in the Constitution because of lies. We need a Government that tells us the truth this is the only way we can all work together to make the country and in fact the world a better place.

This list is in no specific order. One thing is not really worse than the other when it comes to the disintegration of our government. It is also important to understand that just because the far right it wrong does not mean that the far left is right. Extremes never work. As much as the extreme right ideology would destroy society from the bottom up the extreme left can do the same damage from the top down. There is a middle ground and that middle ground is actually allowing state and local governments to make their own laws based on the ideals of the people that live in their jurisdiction. As much as all Americans love freedom we do not hold the same ideals and values. Rather than fight about them let's live and let live. In the end we all need to be Americans rather than Democrats or Republicans.

You need basic support such as specific events/legislation to prove your point. Also, try rereading what you type to check for errors before posting something of such a strong controversial nature. In simpler terms, don't just mindlessly rant. Come on, I'm a high school government student and I'm capable of writing better than this .

DJ, the idea of separation of church and state is only from a letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists Association in which he "contemplates" the separation. It is NOT in the Constitution. Please feel free to read it.

    I completely disagree with you.

First off, what makes you think CRIMINALS wont manage to get "assault weapons", that they could use for crime against helpless citizens if gun control is passed?

Also, social programs are useless. What ever happened to people taking are of themselves and family members? If the elderly or sickly need help, it should be their family, friends, or donations that help them, not the government.

Lastly, global warming has no proof. In fact, the past couple winters have actually lasted longer and been colder than most other winters before. Next time you bring up global warming, bring proof of it. Don't just say it is real and give no proof of it at all, it makes you look like a fool.

Wow David K., did you even read what it said because by the way your response is written, im guessing that you didn't. Your bringing up the constitution to back up Conservatives like all these politicians do but then everything conservatives stand for is opposite what the constitution states. Separation of church and state....that one seems to be broken alot, abortion, although i do not support it, is most of the times fought by using religion, gay marriage is also fought by politicians using, yet again, there religions. Also I am not stating that Liberals are right, neither did the person that wrote this document.

Spreading Democracy? Actually we are a Republic
    Gun Control?
No private citizen requires assault weapons of fully automatic weapons of any kind? Well I do not have and I do not know anyone who does, However I do have SEMI Automatic firearms that are called pistols and carbine rifles, I have no bazooka or tanks "assault weapons" is a "scary" buzzword to get a Reation from you, the only people "assaulting" anybody with weapons is the military and police and they get with our tax dollars at a discount what we can buy leagally at full price but they're rifles fire 3 round burst's, So if you are concerned about "technological advancements we have much more sophisticated and deadly weapons today" I would be MORE concerned about nuclear, biological or chemical, That sounds more like "assault weapons" to me, and those would render firearms useless. We all know what is killing this country and other countries throughout history and it

to bad global warming was proved false

It's this ideology that gets us into trouble. This "lets make everyones income equal so that everyone wins" is complete bs. That only makes everyone lose. Apparently the government knows how to spend my money better than I do. Obama is America's reality check.

This is how America became great, with higher taxes on the rich? Last I checked, four Presidents, two Democrats and two Republicans cut taxes for everyone permanently and those tax cuts sparked huge growth in Federal revenue and the economy: Calvin Coolidge(R), John F. Kennedy(D), Ronald Reagan(R) and Bill Clinton(D).

Cutting Taxes For The Wealthy: So your assuming the federal gov't puts this tax money to good use?
Legislating Morality: I agree with this, just don't assume all conservatives are Republicans
Peace Through War: Minus the most recent "Iraqi War" hasn't it been "liberals" that have put us into the wars and "conservatives" that have got us out, in U.S. History? (I did no research at all towards this point)

This article was to predictable for me to continue reading.

    Last comment was cut off--

Currently all social programs hand people money and leave it at that. Plus, what if I don't approve of the people getting the money. Why should I be forced to give the money that I have earned--if I put in the time to get it, I should control it. Would you give a bad child candy? Would you take from a child that is working and give half to their brother/ sister who is not working? My mom wouldn't be OK if I just took money from her purse because I needed it (yet she is a liberal.) The only difference between stealing and a social program is a 2000 page document that a bunch of old guys voted on--it's legalized crime.
