Top Ten Reasons Why the Patriots Will Win Super Bowl XLII

Chad Parsons
Bill Belichek

Like it or not, Bill Belichek may be the best coach in our generation. He's won a Super Bowl with Troy Brown playing cornerback and can game plan for opponents better than anyone in the NFL. He knows exactly how to utilize every player on the roster to his greatest strength, contributing to team victories. The Patriots always have the intangibles in their favor, making it difficult to beat them any week of the season.

Tom Brady

Brady is mentioned with Manning as the best quarterback in the NFL and for good reason. Brady isn't the flashiest fantasy football player, but he wins football games. In key moments of the game, Brady makes THE throw to get THE first down needed to win the game or keep the opponent's offense off the field. He sees the field, reads the coverage, avoids pressure, can take the big hit and deliver a perfect pass to the open receiver. His favorite receiver is the open one.

Randy Moss

The Patriots have won 3 Super Bowls with Deion Branch has the best receiver in recent memory. Randy Moss will be motivated (he's finally on a winning team again) and that's a scary thought for NFL secondaries. With all the other free agent receivers they brought in, if Moss draws double coverage, Brady will have open guys all over the field. Moss gives the team a down-field presence, opening up the underneath routes all day long - Oh, and Moss can catch a fade route anytime he wants inside the 10-yard line.

Veteran Linebackers

As if the Patriots didn't have enough talent at linebacker with Bruschi, Vrabel and Colvin - they acquire prized free agent Adalius Thomas. 3-4 linebackers are vital to a defense's success. Vince Wilfork will draw double-teams, freeing this talented quartet to make plays all season.

Offensive Line

This no-name group just goes about their business of opening up running lanes and allowing Tom Brady to step into his throws. No glitz, no glamor (except that commercial from a couple years ago), just great play as a group.

Wes Welker

Welker will be the go-to target for Brady over the middle and on third-down. Welker is a sure-handed receiver, runs crisp routes and will excel at all the crossing routes and zone reads the Patriots run.

The Foxboro Factor

If it weren't for the RCA dome last year, the Patriots would be defending champions right now. The Patriots having home-field in the playoffs would guarantee a Super Bowl berth, but it took Peyton Manning at his absolute best in a dome to beat the Pat's by one score last year. No one wants to play in England in December and January - just ask the Raiders.

AFC East

Regardless of the writers touting the Jets as a sleeper team in the AFC or the Bills "circling the wagons" in 2007, the Patriots own the AFC East. With the current playoff format, winning your division is more important than ever. Even with an upset by Miami or Buffalo every once in a while, the Jets won't overtake the Patriots in 2007 or in the short-term future.

Schedule

If home-field is in question late in the season, the Patriots have Miami and the Giants in the final two weeks to lock it up. They have a few tough games, but they tend to step up for the big games (San Diego, at Indy, at Baltimore) and win most of them.

NFC

Winning the AFC is much more difficult than winning the Super Bowl. The best NFC team is 4th or 5th in the AFC, which gives the Patriots a huge advantage once reaching the big game. Most of the roster has already been there and won before. That's a huge advantage. What NFC team has experience? The Bears have the bad taste of losing it last year. The Eagles lost it to New England a few years ago. Seattle? Their window is closed. The Saints? They may win the NFC, but they don't have a defense or a receiver other than overrated Colston. Hello, Super Bowl Champions, New England Patriots.
