SJD
Everyone knows how boring and endless a road trip can be. Even more so is if you are travelling with small children with the ever often "are we there yet"? There are ways to help pass the time though and to keep all passengers engaged in some car games. Here is a list of the top ten car games for you to introduce on your next road trip.

1. License Plate Game - This is a game where each participant scouts out the different license plates from the passing cars. The person with the greatest number of license plates from different Provinces or States wins. You could also change this to points, so a different country is worth a certain amount of points and so on.

2. I Spy - The person who holds the position of Spy picks an object and provides a hint as to what they see. Everyone else must guess what they spy. The person who chooses correctly gets to become the next Spy.

3. 20 Questions - Someone thinks of a famous person, place or thing. Everyone else may ask a combined total of 20 yes or no questions. The person who guesses correctly gets to think of the next thing.

4. Alphabet Game - You pick a topic and a letter and everyone else must say as many things that correspond with the topic and letter. An example of this is the topic Animals with the letter A.

5. Team Storytelling - A person says a sentence to start the story. The next person will add in another sentence to correspond with the prior sentence to continue the story. You can continue to do this until it doesn't make sense anymore or the story ends. You can also do this with single words rather than sentences.

6. I am Going on a Journey - This is a memory game where the leader starts off by saying "I am going on a Journey and I am bringing with me a...." The object they choose must start with the letter A. The next person must repeat with the first person said and then choose their own object to start with the letter B. The game continues on as far as you can go or until you reach the end of the alphabet.

7. Counting Game - In this game you can choose any object depending on where you are located. You will also choose a specific time period for the game to run. You can only count on your side of the car and you can create distractions for other people in the car to cause them to lose count. The person with the most wins. An example of objects you can count are cows or crows.

8. Pack mini magnetic travel games for the car such as chess or checkers.

9. Karaoke - Create a Karaoke CD to listen and sing along to in the car. You can turn it into a little friendly competition.

10. Mad Libs - Buy some Mad Libs books from the local bookstore.

If you are prepared for your road trip with some games and entertainment your road trip will be alot more fun and the time will pass by. It also encourages interaction amongst all passengers in the car and bonding for family trips. Although Road Trips can be long, they can also be a great source of fun if you are well prepared.

Another fun game is the "movie game" in which someone names a movie, and each person must name an additional movie which begins with the last letter of the previous movie. Articles don't count. For instance--"Braveheart," "Trainspotting," "The Godfather." There are, of course, many variations.
