Top Ten Robert Lee Downey, Jr. Movies

Drama and Action in Movies

Christi Bowers
Robert Lee Downey, Jr. has been in many movies. His roles have gone from highschool kid to newspaper writer to action hero. For some reason, I tend to always enjoy any movies Robert Lee Downey, Jr. is in. Even though he has had some personal problems in his own life, his movies have all turned out to be great works of art in my opinion. Here are my choices for his top ten movies.

1. Zodiac. This movie had two my favorite actors of all time, Robert Lee Downey, Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal. Together, they made one weird movie that made me truly think about mankind. This to me was Robert Lee Downey's best role.

2. Gothika in 2003. Gothika was another odd film. It was off the beaten path. However, it's another favorite movie of mine and just happens to also star Robert Lee Downey, Jr. In Gothika, Downey plays the therapist doctor who is trying to help Halle Berry's character, who just murdered her husband (or at least she is accused of doing so.) This is a great role for Downey.

3. Iron Man in 2008. I never thought I would want to see the movie Iron Man, because I don't really enjoy movies about action heroes. However, this movie made me a new fan. I couldn't believe how well Robert Lee Downey, Jr. performed in this role. He made the movie exciting, even though I previously found this to be a dull topic. He also was very attractive in the movie, and you could tell he spent months in the gym preparing for this role.

4. The Pickup Artist from 1987. Remember Molly Ringwald? If you were a teenager in the 1980's, you can't forget her. She was the IT girl back then, for some reason. Well, this movie with Robert Lee Downey, Jr. was one of her best. It was worth watching because she was able to change him from being a womanizer to actually caring about someone. I like a girl who can get her guy to be decent to her. Oh, by the way, I liked Robert Lee Downey's role in this movie as well.

5. Less Than Zero, from 1987. Maybe you remember this one, maybe you don't. But it's still a movie to remember. Robert Lee Downey, Jr. is a college freshman in Los Angeles, helping a friend with a drug addiction. Interesting, how the roles reversed in his real life.

6. Chaplin in 1992. I just liked this movie because it was so peculiarly different. I liked his take on the character.

7. Natural Born Killers. This was an earlier role where Robert Lee Downey was a reporter, reporting about the killings of two serial killers. Did it foreshadow the Zodiac?

8. A Scanner Darkly, from 2006. If you like anime', you'll love this movie. Even though I don't necessarily care for it, Robert Lee Downey was able to make this movie great.

9. The Singing Detective in 2003. Very interesting, and a little over the top. But if you love Robert Lee Downey, Jr., you're sure to love this film. From his hospital bed, he does all kinds of things. In the movie, he's a writer.

10. Lucky You, where he plays Telephone Jack. He doesn't have the star role in this one, but I like his part in it. I also recommend this one because of Eric Bana, my third favorite actor of all times.

You need to actually watch less than zero. You are way off. Downey plays Julian who is the drug addict. This movie should also be number one on the list.
