Top Ten Rock Songs of the 2000s

Heidi Stephens
10: My Immortal; Evanescence; It brings a tear to my eyes. Amy Lee's voice crying over a lost love. Rock songs never make me cry, but this one did the trick.

9: Photograph; Nickelback: I'm libel to get flack for posting a Nickelback song, but I don't care. I still love this song. It's a great looking-back-on-what-my-life-could've-been song.

8: The Pretender; Foo Fighters: Great lyrics, and a great rockin' beat. It lacks something, though, and I cannot figure out what it is.

7: Getting Away With Murder; Papa Roach: I wanna know one person who hasn't sung this driving down the road. Really. Come on. Ya know you wanna!

6: Sugar, We're Goin' Down; Fall Out Boy: Fall Out Boy introduced a new form of rock. We all hated it, but all had it as a ringtone.

5: Soul Meets Body; Death Cab For Cutie: Sweet lyrics, in an odd way. It's a kiddish sounding song. A couple of coworkers of mine would goof around and sing "When soul meets potty!" and laugh. Deep down, I secretly loved it.

4: Home; Breaking Benjamin: A song that amazing, and that talks about The Wizard of Oz? Okay, I'm hooked!

3: Sound of Madness; Shinedown: Yes, it's newer, only a few months old, in fact. But I haven't rocked to anything harder in a good long while. Something that I can scream out, and mean what I'm screaming. We've all experienced, or thought the chorus: I created the sound of madness, wrote the book on pain...

2: St. Anger; Metallica: The triumphant return of the mighty Metallica. After a new bassist, and a three hour long
documentary, we needed this. And it was good. A long, hard driven fist pumping song. Nothing is better, except...

1: American Idiot; Green Day: For those of my generation (early 20's) this spoke to us. We were tired of hearing about the war. We were tired of "Boot in your ass" songs. This was our answer. And, it still rocks as hard today as it did when it was first played on the radio.
