Romance is Always Alive in the Movies

Romance is a lifetime adventure that is identified in different ways through this illustrious group of romance movies.

Casablanca (1942) A classic movie of extraordinary quality starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman which took place in World War II. A Top Ten pick because it has always been a favorite romance movie for the older crowd. "Here's to you kid!"

From Here to Eternity (1953) Another old World War II film starring Burt Lancaster, Donna Reed and Montgomery Cliff. This was a Top Ten pick because it showed some of the destiny that we in the over fifty crowd face based on our moral character.

An Affair to Remember (1957) Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr star in a story with a fantastic plot. This was a Top Ten pick because of all the mystery and intrigue of a truly great romance over fifty movie.

West Side Story (1961) Winner of ten Oscar's this was a musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Starring Natalie Wood it was picked for the Top Ten because it won so many Oscars and it's my wife's favorite.

The Sound of Music (1965) Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummerin a musical about a nun who leaves the convent to care for a rich Austrian military man's seven children. A Top Ten Romance Movie for its emotional appeal to the over fifty crowd.

Pretty Woman (1990) A Cinderella story starring Richard Gere as a rich successful Wall Street entrepreneur Edward and Julia Roberts as an unlikely L.A. prostitute Vivian. A Top Ten pick for its fantasy appeal and Julia's great acting.

Ghost (1990) An all-star cast with Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg. This 1990 sci-fi romance finds an executive who has been killed trying to communicate with his girlfriend via a phony psychic. This movie made the Top Ten because of its unusual story line and emotional comedy.

The Bridges of Madison County (1995) A very popular modern day romance over fifty. This Top Ten pick was made because of the modern feel of the movie and its terrific cast starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep.

The English Patient (1996) A truly great movie, which takes place in Italy and Northern Africa during World War II. Four men find themselves with a dying patientand as the four reveal details of their lives it becomes apparent who the English patient is in life. I picked this Top Ten for its originality and appeal to the over fifty romance crowd.

Titanic (1997) The story of this famous ship told through the eyes of a women definitely over fifty who found love on the ships maiden voyage in 1912. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio give riveting performances filled with raw emotion, which is why I picked it for the TopTen. It's also my favorite.
