When you think of Christmas movies, you probably first call to mind classic movies like Miracle on 34th Street or A Christmas Story. Maybe you even think about Ebenezzer Scrooge and how he forgot what Christmas, family and friends are all about. But you probably don't necessarily at first bring to mind someone trying to sabotage Christmas, and you certainly don't think of someone going on a killing spree during the holiday season. Well, these ten horror movies do just that. Read on, and watch them all!
1. Gremlins (1984). So we'll start out the list with an at least somewhat innocent scary movie, Gremlins. You've seen how cute the little gremlins are: everyone would want one as a pet. It's what they become that makes them scary. If they change, you'd better run for your life!
2. Jack Frost (1996). No, Jack Frost is not a snowman. Well, at least not at first. He's a serial killer who was finally caught and is about to be executed. On the way to be executed in a transfer vehicle, Jack Frost escapes when there is a collision with an eighteen wheeler tanker. When he does escape, however, the acid from the tanker's contents cause Jack's body to be burned, and the remains mold with the snow. Somehow, he becomes a living snowman, seeking revenge on the town who put him away for the murders. Watch out if you ever crossed Jack Frost: he's coming for you!
3. Black Christmas (2006). Black Christmas is a remake of the earlier 1974 film with the same name. Robert Mann plays the part of the main character, Billy Lenz. He was born with a rare medical condition that turns his skin yellow. His mother kills her husband and starts seeing a new man. She rapes Billy because she wants another child and finds out that her new boyfriend is unable to have children. Billy decides on Christmas eve to go on a killing spree, killing his mother and her new boyfriend, and anyone else who later gets in his way. What a nice Christmas gift to the world, hm?
4. Christmas Evil (1980). If you're looking for some more blood and gore in a Christmas movie, look no further. So there's this young kid who still believes in Santa Claus. He sees Santa making sexual advances on his Mother, and he can't believe it! Skip ahead to the kid as an adult. In his own little deranged world, he is going to become the true Santa Claus. He starts doing all kinds of weird things, such as making lists of who is naughty and who is nice and then getting them gifts accordingly. It doesn't stop there, however, as he also kills people along the way! Who really thinks of doing such evil on Christmas?
5. Santa's Slay (2005). This Christmas horror movie is about just what it says: Santa slaying people. From the beginning of the movie, we see Santa killing people with lots of blood and gore. This scary holiday film actually has an interesting story behind it. Supposedly, Santa Claus was actually the child of a virgin impregnated by Satan the way Jesus was the result of the Virgin Mary being impregnated by God. Santa would kill people every year on Christmas, until an angel made him start being nice for a 1000 year period based on winning a bet. Now, it's 2005, and Santa has paid his price and he can start killing again.
6. Don't Open Till Christmas (1984). There's no tricky theme here in this Christmas horror movie. A guy goes around killing everyone dressed up as Santa Claus. The scary flick takes place in London, and a detective sets out to stop the bad Santa.
7. Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984). 1984 must be the year of the Christmas holiday movie releases! Anyway, in this horror Christmas flick, a young child sees his parents murdered by a man in a Santa Claus suit. He grows up in an orphanage, and then he starts killing people during Christmas time himself.
8. Wind Chill (2007). Two college students are going home for Christmas, but they take a wrong turn. You'd better watch out, taking a wrong turn can be deadly in this movie!
9. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010). This scary film takes place in Finland. During an archaeological dig, Santa's remains are found! Will he come back to life and haunt and kill everyone? The movie has a very interesting plot, and even though there is horror involved, parts of the movie are also funny.
10. Saint Nick (2011). Saint Nick comes out once every thirty two years when there is a full moon on Christmas and kills people. Enjoy this Dutch horror flick as the last of our ten great Christmas horror movies.
