Top Ten Sibling Rivalries on Television
It's Great Watching This Classic Conflict Between Brothers and Sisters on TV
1. Ross and Monica Gellar (Friends)- The quirky Ross and Monica Gellar on the hit series Friends will go down in time as one of the most loveable sibling rivalries to hit the air waves. Ross is the evident favorite of their parents while Monica is the younger sibling always seeming to come up short. In the episode of their grandmother's funeral, Ross delivers a tear jerking speech, while Monica tries her hardest to orate a heartfelt memorial, but doesn't get the reception that she expected. But we all know that deep down they love each other and displays this special brother-sister bond when they do their rehearsed dance routine together for New Year's Eve.
2. Ray and Robert Barron (Everybody Loves Raymond)- Boys will be boys. Raymond and Robert Barron of Everybody Loves Raymond epitomize sibling rivalry. Raymond is the mama's boy who is constantly spoiled by their mother's affection and Italian cooking. Robert, on the other hand, has to battle his little brother's affinity for attention. It always seems like when things are going well for Robert, Raymond has to steal the spotlight.
3. Charlie and Alan Harper (Two and a Half Men)- Charlie and Alan Harper on Two and a Half Men is another brotherly sibling rivalry. One is the good looking, rich, and carefree brother that seems to have the good life. Alan on the hand is divorced and is always struggling to balance his love life with taking care of his son. The show revolves around their pursuit for happiness (and for women) while trying to not get in each other's way. Things don't always work out as planned, to say the least.
4. Frasier and Niles Crane (Frasier)- The dueling minds of these two therapist brothers are the seeds for sibling rivalry between Frasier and Niles Crane. These two quarrel and debate over psychosis, women, and squash games.
5. Darlene and Becky Connor (Roseanne) - It's easy to watch the crazy antics of the Connor family (before they won the lottery) because their family dysfunction reminds us of own in some crazy way. Becky was the pretty popular older sister while Darlene was the dark haired loner. They would fight over their room, the phone, and chores and it was great to watch because their hatred for each other was so real and genuine.
6. The Bluth Siblings (Arrested Development)- The siblings of Arrested Development are dysfunctional and hilarious, to say the least. Their antics are driving their oldest brother, Michael, up the wall but it makes for good television entertainment. The spoiled siblings are constantly asking Michael for money and he has to do his best to keep it all together and sane!
7. Nate, Claire and David Fisher (Six Feet Under)- The three siblings of Six Feet Under is a great example of sibling rivalry to its core. The two brothers lead very different lives. Nate is a free spirit who is constantly battling his responsibility with his need to be independent. And the younger brother, David, is a gay man who is attached to his family business. Their little sister, Claire, is the polar opposite of both of them, but we realize how much they love each other as they all sit on their porch smoking together.
8. Prue, Piper, and Phoebe Halliwell (Charmed)- The three witches of Charmed are quite charming indeed and their sibling antics are just as loveable. Even though they fight demons and evil spirits together, they still have that classic sisterly rivalry where they want to tear each other's throats and save one another's lives at the same time.
9. Francis, Reese, Malcolm, and Dewey Wilkerson (Malcolm in the Middle)- The siblings of Malcolm in the Middle are a great example of young sibling rivalry. They are constantly playing tricks on each other and trying to outthink the other. If you think your sibling is bad, just be thankful you're not apart of this dysfunctional family.
10. Bart and Lisa Simpson (The Simpsons)- Okay, so they're not even real people. But Bart and Lisa Simpson have captured the hearts of television viewers everywhere. Their sibling rivalry ranges from competing in science fairs to being on opposite hockey teams to vying for their parents' affection. But in the end they truly love each other as displayed in the Lisa's Birthday episode where Bart sings a duet birthday song for his little sister.
