Top Ten Skills Your Homeschooler Needs to Practice Daily

Mrs. Renee
So you have your homeschool curriculum all picked out, and your kids are learning what they need for the year. However there are some skills that are often forgotten during the course of the year. There are plenty of necessary skills that your children need in addition to just he basic curriculum stuff. Below is a list of the top ten skills that your child should practice on a daily basis. Since they are homeschooled they have plenty of time to focus on these skills.

Laundry

The one thing you don't want to do is send your child off to college without being able to wash their own clothes. This may sound odd but you would be surprised at how many young adults go off to school each year not even knowing the first thing about taking care of their clothes. Well if your children are old enough to carry the laundry basket, than they are old enough to start learning the basics. Each day you can have them do something with the laundry. They can either place their clothes in the laundry bin, or just focus on putting clothes away, or organizing their drawers. A daily laundry activity will get them accustomed to a weekly routine. By the time they are teenagers they will have it mastered.

Sweeping or vacuum the floor

A simple skill but another one that many kids don't do often enough. Why not assign your child one room that they are responsible for sweeping, and cleaning on a daily basis. You don't have to have them do every room in the house, but just one small area.

Dishes

Even if you have a dishwasher it makes sense to make sure that your children know how to clear a dinner table. If you don't have a dishwasher then when they are old enough assign them a time of day to do the dishes. You don't have to have them clean every dish in the sink, but a few is fine. Even if you have to clean them again after they are done, it still gets them in the habit of doing so.

Dusting

A simple chore like dusting is one that many often forget. However it is a very important one especially if your child has allergies that they have to deal with. Each day you can give them certain areas of the house that they can focus on dusting. You can even give them their own dusting rag. Give them a spot for their dust rugs, this way when they are done they can put them back in the right spot.
