OK now for the picks I got right last week. I was right on with Kevin Smith, LeSean McCoy, Felix Jones, and Knowshon Moreno. However, on the other side of the coin I did endorse Derrick Ward (that won't happen again), Jonathan Stewart, and Ray Rice. All in all I was a pretty respectable 7-3. Not too shabby considering I'm playing in the money leagues just like you.
This is the part where I tell you I am not Matthew Berry and I never claim to be. He is on another level of getting his weekly picks wrong. My level is much less noticeable since I'm not on ESPN. So the first bye week is up and on top of that there are a decent amount of injuries to take into account when deciding whom to start this week. So if you've read this much then please visit my in progress fantasy sports site at BabyBlueMonkey.com which has the best fantasy logo ever...
1) Glen Coffee - Frank Gore pissed a lot people off by playing one or two plays in the game and pulling up lame thus ruining a lot of people's week. Now Mr. Gore (not the ex-VP) is out for 2-3 games officially but the word is that this is a nasty injury. Nevertheless Glen Coffee had a brilliant preseason and has a cherry matchup coming in week 4 against the hapless Rams. The 49ers are a run first offense and Coffee should get a good number of carries in the game with some goal line looks. This guy should go from about 3% ownership to 90% this week.
2) Tashard Choice - Felix Jones is crippled, Marion Barber is less than a hundred percent IF he returns. Oh yeah and the Dallas Cowboys lead the league in rushing right now. So maybe you want to get cute and pick this guy up for a flex play or a bye week fill in. Denver's defense has been surprisingly stingy but Choice will get some choice carries.
3) Darren McFadden - This is officially the last time I put McFadden in my picks if he doesn't perform. You can only give a guy so many chances before you have to banish him. Chris Johnson ran for a bazillion yards on Houston and Oakland has NO passing game thanks to Al Davis being an idiot and sticking with Russell who is singlehandedly destroying any respect the black and silver once had. Point being if McFadden can't make something happen this game then we are going to have to call it a season in Oakland and make them forfeit the rest of their games.
4) Julius Jones - One hit wonder he is not. Look for Jones to light it up again against the Colts who historically have trouble stopping the run. True there is the chance that Manning will throw 5 touchdowns before the half but Seattle has nothing else going for it except Julius Jones and perhaps John Carlson. So someone has to do something and Jones is that man.
5) Cedric Benson - Another obvious pick but Benson is going to terrorize the Browns. I saw Mangenius giving a press conference after the game and he was a picture book representation of a man without words. He looked lost and I swear I saw him mouth the words "help me" to the camera. It really doesn't matter who throws the ball for the Browns, the Bengals are this year's Arizona Cardinals without all the flash (scratch that they have OchoCinco).
6) Brandon Jacobs - A no brainer if you got him. Ahmad Bradshaw is walking with an inflatable boot and the Giants will get ahead early then pound, pound, and pound the ball some more. They might actually have to call in a practice squad guy to continue with the pounding because Jacobs will be too tired. I just see a terrific game played here I expect week 2 Frank Gore numbers.
7) Adrian Peterson - OK so there should be no reason ADP is on this list but I just want to say that Green Bay will lose and the reason for the loss will be because they can't contain All Day. Favre will do a mediocre game and Ryan Grant will finally understand how poor he is performing (ok maybe poor is a little strong). Peterson will carve up Green Bay and the cheese heads are going to blame Rodgers.
8) Clinton Portis - Sure he sucked last week but he can't really suck two weeks in a row can he... OK I'm sure he can but 'ol Clint needs to establish himself again and get some decent yardage to compliment Jason Campbell's decent performances. It's like the skins offense is not firing on all cylinders, might have something to do with not having a real offensive coordinator. Maybe.
9) Pierre Thomas - If this guy is still available pick him up. He led the league in rushing last week. Oh yeah and he did that in only half the game. The Jets have been stingy in three games and Rex Ryan talks a great game and usually his team has backed him up. Rex Ryan meet Drew Brees. After Brees torches their secondary then Pierre Thomas is going to rack up some yards. I'm calling the Saints winners on this. Sanchez is a fine QB but a yard for yard comparison of Brees... I think not.
10Willis McGahee - True story, McGahee is leading all running backs in touchdowns. Another true story, you might be able to trade for him and get this kind of performance all year round. Ray Rice leads in touches but McGahee is a goal line specialist to the tee. Duex TD's in this game against a soul searching New England team.
