Chris Rice is a Leading Gospel Song Writer..

Jesus Saves

Chris Rice started writing his songs in the mid 80's. A decade later in 1995, he became the Christian Songwriter of the Year after writing "By Faith" sung by Kim Boyce (the song also became Song of the Year). He became the first artist signed to Michael W. Smith's Rocketown Records in 1996. Chris Rice recorded Deep Enough To Dream as his first album and was released in September 1997. He released Smell the Color 9 in 2000 after the release of Past the Edges. The next album was an instrumental (piano) - The Living Room Sessions.

After a two year break, Chris Rice came up with Run the Earth, Watch The Sky. The latest release by Chris Rice was Amusing, in 2005 released through Sony. Chris Rice has had a pretty decent run as far the number of sales is concerned, but more importantly, he has made na impact on many a people's life. His songs are upbeat, but meaningful and make you think at times. Some of his better songs, however, are the slow, mellow songs that focus on God and His beauty, and not on the Christianity of this world.

Chris also released Short Term Memories, which was a compilation of his previous best hits and a live album called Snapshots before finally releasing Amusing in 2005.

Chris Rice has grown to become one of the most popular names in the Gospel songs genre. He was born to a Christian book store owner and fell in love with Jesus at a young age. His songs, though not always about Christ explicitly, are still true to that love.

Holy One - This is a song sung from the perspective of a man in the 1st century during the time of Jesus. A man who struggles with who Jesus is and what Jesus' claims mean. He is convinced that this is the Holy One of Israel, but what about the questions the pharisees bring, but Jesus is also the one who heals everyone. He desperately wants to meet with Jesus and know more, but the next time, Jesus is gone. He is heartbroken, Jesus was his hope, but now He's gone. Dead and buried. The next day he goes to the grave. But it's empty! The body isn't there anymore, and he hears that Jesus is alive, as per the prophecies in the Old Testament and what Jesus said about Himself. The man is excited, but doesn't now where to find Jesus now, and chooses to focus on what Jesus said about Himself - I am the life, I am the light...(chorus). The song captures the emotions so perfectly, that I could not help but place myself in the protagonist's shoes, and wonder what it was like.

Untitled Hymn (Come to Jesus) - Another song that wonderfully captures the emotions in the journey of life. And at each time what our response should be to it - Come to Jesus. The best way to understand this beautiful song is to listen to the words:

Weak and wounded sinner
Lost and left to die
O, raise your head, for love is passing by
Come to Jesus
Come to Jesus
Come to Jesus and live!

Now your burden's lifted
And carried far away
And precious blood has washed away the stain, so
Sing to Jesus
Sing to Jesus
Sing to Jesus and live!

And like a newborn baby
Don't be afraid to crawl
And remember when you walk
Sometimes we fall...so
Fall on Jesus
Fall on Jesus
Fall on Jesus and live!

Hi Jesus Saves - are you still there? It looks like you haven't written since 2006. I just wrote an article about Top 10 songs from Chris Rice (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/622243/favorite_musical_artist_have_you_heard.html?page=2) and noticed yours in the "you may also like list). I love that you printed out all of "Come to Jesus". And that you've reviewed other Christian artists and Christian topics. Good for you. You should keep writing on AC. We need the faith-based voices! Sheryl.
