I personally enjoy the vast majority of Death cab For Cutie's work, and have purchased each and every album they have put out. Primarily popular with a college audience, you would be hard pressed to find a college student today who has at least not heard of Death cab For Cutie. The band has released quite a few albums and consistently sells out shows in medium sized venues around the country.
Here are some of my favorite songs by the band. There are numerous songs that undoubtedly also belong on this list. With such a huge collection of work, my favorite songs tend to change as quickly as my mood.
I Will Follow You Into The Dark
"I Will Follow You Into the Dark" is off Death Cab For Cutie's Album "Plans". The song is a soft acoustic song sung by Ben Gibbard, that promises a love that when they die he will not be far behind them and "follow you into the dark".
Champagne From A Paper Cup
"Champagne From A Paper Cup" is off of Death Cab For Cutie's album "You can Play these Songs With three Chords". The song is from the perspective of someone at a party waiting to take someone home. The first line of the song is I think I'm drunk enough to drive you home". The song takes a look at the party scene, and of course drinking champagne out of a paper cup.
Soul Meets Body
"Soul Meets Body" is off of Death Cab For Cutie's album "Plans". Soul Meets Body was the single off of that album and has a catchy beat that will immediately have you singing along.
The Sound Of Settling
"The Sound of Settling" is off of Death Cab For Cutie's album "Transatlanticism". Everyone at some point has thought they were settling for something or someone, this song is a catchy song about that feeling.
The New Year
"The New Year" is another song off of Death Cab For Cutie's album "Transatlanticism". This was the first song by Death Cab I ever heard. It describes the very first anticlimactic moments of a new year and not feeling" any different'.
405
"405" is one of Death cab For Cutie's most well know songs it was originally off of the album "We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes", it was also re-released in acoustic form on their "Forbidden EP".
We Looked Like Giants
"We Looked Like Giants" is off of Death Cab For Cutie's album "Transatlanticism", It talks about two people presumably in college who had a long distance relationship. The "we looked like giants" refers to how the two looked in the back of a sub-compact car".
Different Names For The Same Thing
"Different Names For the same thing" is a song off of Death Cab For Cutie's album "Plans". The soft ballad is just one voice and piano, and then transitions into a slightly more rocking song.
A Movie Script Ending
"A Movie Script Ending" is off of Death Cab For Cutie's album "The Photo Album". The song has a great beat, but a mellow feel to it.
Photobooth
"Photobooth" reminds me of every college relationship I ever had. The song talks about a summer relationship and all that remains are pictures taken in a photobooth.
