Elvis Presley's music continues to live on long after his death in 1977. He has numerous number 1 hits and it's likely if you listen to the radio often you'll here his songs in regular rotation. Elvis was dubbed "The King of Rock N' Roll" and even though he is no longer with us he is still "The King". Many people collect Elvis memorabilia and still trek to visit Graceland each year. This is why I am giving you my own list of the Top Ten Songs by Elvis Presley.
#1 Kentucky Rain
This has been my favorite Elvis song since my mom played it for me the first time when I was a child. Listen to it yourself and you will see why it is number one on this list.
"Kentucky rain keeps pouring down and up ahead is another town that I'll go walking thru with the rain in my shoes, searching for you in the cold Kentucky rain."
#2 Suspicious Minds
This song is just one of the best sung Elvis songs and really is in a tie with #1. "We can't go on together with suspicious minds. And we can't build our dreams on suspicious minds."
#3 Jailhouse Rock
Jailhouse Rock could probably be considered one of Elvis' most famous songs. Who doesn't know at least the chorus to this song? "The sad sack was a sitting on a block of stone way over in the corner weeping all alone. The warden said, "Hey, buddy, don't you be no square. If you can't find a partner use a wooden chair." Let's rock, everybody, let's rock. Everybody in the whole cell block was dancing to the Jailhouse Rock."
#4 Blue Suede Shoes
Another very memorable song. "Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh, honey, lay off of my shoes. Don't you step on my Blue suede shoes. You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes."
#5 Heartbreak Hotel
A very relative song for anyone who has ever had a broken heart. "Well, since my baby left me, I found a new place to dwell. It's down at the end of lonely street at Heartbreak Hotel."
#6 Don't Be Cruel
Don't be cruel, just listen to the great songs of the King. His music lives on. "Let's walk up to the preacher and let us say I do. Then you'll know you'll have me, and I'll know that I'll have you. Don't be cruel to a heart that's true. I don't want no other love,
baby it's just you I'm thinking of."
#7 Hound Dog
Maybe it is just the dog lover in me that adores this song. "When they said you was high classed, well, that was just a lie. You ain't never caught a rabbit and you ain't no friend of mine."
#8 Return To Sender
Maybe I should have put this one higher in my top ten because I can totally relate to this song. "She wrote upon it: Return to sender, address unknown. No such number, no such zone. We had a quarrel, a lover's spat I write I'm sorry but my letter keeps coming back."
#9 Are You Lonesome Tonight?
Elvis was famous for his loves songs, they are a plenty. "Are you lonesome tonight? Do you miss me tonight?. Are you sorry we drifted apart? Does your memory stray to a bright summer day when I kissed you and called you sweetheart?"
#10 It's Now Or Never
Just another Elvis love song to tear at your heartstrings. "It's now or never, come hold me tight. Kiss me my darling, be mine tonight. Tomorrow will be too late, it's now or never. My love won't wait."
Elvis had way more "Top Ten" songs than this, but I would call these some of the best of the best. For a great taste in Elvis #1's get a copy of the CD '30 #1 Hits'.
