Top Ten Songs for Getting it On

John Myers
Music has many applications in life. Favorite songs can get you going when you feel like letting loose or give you comfort when you're feeling down. Music provides enjoyment to so many in so many different ways, providing an ample backdrop for all things in our lives.

There are a great many songs out there that help get you in the mood when it comes time for sharing intimacy with a significant other. Some songs were written to ease people into making love, sharing some nookie, getting it on, doing the nasty, or whatever you'd like to call it. Herein is my top ten list of songs that make a perfect backdrop for some tender lovemaking or wild times.

#10 - Wicked Game, Chris Isaak

This 1989 tune from the talented singer-songwriter was his only chart-making hit, but it was a classic. Lamenting the loss of a one true love, Isaak's vocals and dark music make this one a great background for a night of tender love.

#9 - Constant Craving, K.D. Lang

This Grammy Award winning song from 1993 by Canadian songstress Lang is sensual and tender.

#8 - Justify My Love, Madonna

This 1990 song off of the singer's Immaculate Collection album caused so much controversy that it became her best selling single to that point. Though the video is much more explicit than the song (and was banned by MTV!), the underlying bass line coupled with spoken lyrics beckon couples into the boudoir.

#7 - Feeling Good, Nina Simone

"Birds flyin high in the sky...you know how I feel..."

So begins this 1965 version of the sultry and timeless song by deep-voiced R&B singer Nina Simone. The tune is a classic, having been used in countless film and television commercials, and makes a great background for an evening in with your partner.

#6 - That's the Way Love Goes, Janet Jackson

"Like a moth to a flame, burned by the fire...my love is blind, can't you see my desire." This pleasing to the ears tune is done in a signature Janet Jackson groove and is perfectly romantic for an evening at home with a significant other.

#5 - Erotic City, Prince

This B-side to "Let's Go Crazy" duet with singer Sheila E was an underground smash for Prince during his heyday in 1986. As with most sexually charged songs, the bass line is what gives it added eroticism. The song is rip-roaringly explicit and should only be listened to when getting down and dirty!

#4 - Sexual Healing, Marvin Gaye

This sexually charged song from 1982 was the last pop hit for the late Motown legend. This one ranks right up there in the sultry department, with the singers soulful sounds and a feel-good groove.

#3 - Fire, The Pointer Sisters

This sultry classic, penned by master lyricist Bruce Springsteen, achieved its highest success with the Pointer Sisters. The group's version song reached #2 on Billboard's Hot 100 charts in 1979 and provided the background to quite a lot of nookie in its day.

#2 - Fever - Peggy Lee

Peaking at #8 on the pop charts in 1958, this song has remained one for the ages. The sexy song with the seductive bass and passionate lyrics is one of the most covered songs in pop history, most notably by Elvis Presley and Madonna. This one's a must have for any night of love!

#1 - Let's Get it On, Marvin Gaye

"Las ooms boopsen," said Frau Farbissina to Dr. Evil the one night they "got it on" in the Austin Powers film "The Spy who Shagged Me." Indeed, there is no better tune for getting down than this one. Marvin's passioned plea is the ultimate backdrop for getting it on!

Please feel free to share your suggestions for favorite songs for lovemaking.
