Top Ten Songs by Moxy Fruvous

My Top Ten Songs by 1990's Canadian Band Moxy Fruvous

Traci Niklas
One of Canada's secret treasures was a band that surfaced on the streets of Toronto around 1989. Featuring political satire and a wicked four part harmony, they quickly spread around Canada and made it over to US soil in the early nineties.

While they have been disbanded since late 2001, their music still speaks for a generation defined with a X.

Here are my top ten songs:

10. "Boo Time" - You Will Go to the Moon - A song that any who appreciate the English language and colloquialisms would love.

9. "Jenny Washington" - The "b" Album - Mocking the shock talk shows of the nineties.

8. "Greatest Man in America" - The "b" Album - Tongue firmly in cheek ballad for Rush Limbaugh

7. "My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors" - Bargainville - a fun romp through a bibliophile's dream party

6. "Michigan Militia""- You Will Go to the Moon - Satirical song about life inside a militant militia compound.

5. "The Gulf War Song" Bargainville - A song about the propaganda surrounding the Gulf War and the viewpoints of twenty-somethings stuck in the era.

4. "River Valley"" - Bargainville - A sweet melody about the fears of pollution and the memories of simpler times.

3. "King of Spain" - Bargainville - The second most recognized Moxy Fruvous song, a play on the Prince and the Pauper fairy tale, modernized with a catchy melody.

2. "The Drinking Song" - - Bargainville - The rich four part harmonies wrench your heart out while listening to them sing about youth, alcoholism, death and

1. "Horseshoes" - Wood - Some of the best Fruvous songs are melancholy looks into relationships. This is, in my opinion, the best. Sometimes "horseshoes have gotta be tossed."

I've lived in Columbus since birth and have been a part of many local theatre and gaming groups. I love crafting and have been known to sculpt, write, sew, make cloth jointed dolls and medieval costuming.  View profile

Moxy Fruvous was made famous for their rendition of "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss and they were asked to cease the production of the indy album that featured the song. True "Fruheads" consider getting a copy of that cassette a true gem.
