Top Ten Songs by Phillips, Craig and Dean

Wait Till You Hear when God Ran.

Jesus Saves

Phillips, Craig & Dean started their career in 1995 with Trust. They started out by blending humor and their famous vocal harmony and quickly became gathered a fan following. However, their popularity started to go up only later when they released Where Strength Begins in 1997 and finally reached it's peak with Restoration in 1999. Their most influential album, even personally for me, has been Let My Words Be Few. This is one of the albums where Phillips, Craig and Dean finally reveal the deep and personal relationship they have with Jesus Christ. Let My Words Be Few is written with the aim to worship God. In essence, it's an album for God, not for Christians, which is why it's so good! The top 3 best songs by Phillips Craig and Dean come from this album - How Deep The Father's Love, When God Ran and The Heart Of Worship. All of their earlier work pales in comparison to this album, primarily because this album lays out an invitation to worship, not one to seek fulfillment, not an invitation to laughter and all the other 'good' things, but focuses simply on the best - Jesus.

The Heart Of Worship - If you've listened to contemporary Christian music at all recently, one thing is clear - the sound and the noises have increased, but the music is fading away. The "music" has become more pleasant to the ears, but misses your heart. Contemporary Christian stuff is so busy trying to compete with the world, that it seems to have forgotten it's purpose. The Heart of Worship is song directed at just that - "I'm sorry Lord for the thing I've made it, when it's all about you, all about you Jesus..." is what the psalmist says. If we try to focus on the beauty of a song over the beauty of the Lord, and if we try to drown out worship with noises, then that's a clear indication that we're not right with God and need to fix that.

When God Ran - You HAVE to listen to this song, as it presents the emotions and the events of Jesus' parable of the prodigal son in a way that puts you in the story. The song is written and sung from the perspective of the prodigal son. How he walks away from his father, and eventually returns, except that there's one small difference - the parable is put together with what it's supposed to be - with God. The song starts out with the titles of God in the Bible - immovable Rock, mighty conqueror, the Great I AM, Almighty God...but there's just one time that I saw Him run - When He ran to me on my return.

Consider just the lyrics of the song:

Almighty God, the great I am
Immovable rock, omnipotent, powerful, awesome Lord
Victorious warrior, commanding King of Kings
Mighty conqueror, and the only time
the only time I ever saw Him run

CHORUS:
Was when He ran to me, He took me in His arms
Held my head to His chest, said "My son's come home again"
Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes
With forgiveness in His voice He said,
"Son do you know I still love you?"
He caught me by surprise when God ran
The day I left home I knew I'd broken His heart
And I wondered then if things could ever be the same
Then one night I remembered His love for me
And down that dusty road ahead I could see
It was the only time - it was the only time I ever saw Him run

And then He ran to me, He took me in His arms
Held my head to His chest, said "My son's come home again"
Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes
With forgiveness in His voice He said,
"Son do you know I still love you?"
He caught me by surprise as He brought me to my knees
When God ran - I saw Him run to me
