Top Ten Sports Songs

Nicole Hogsett
Sports and music are a combination that works well together. The right song can exude all the different emotions that one feels during a sporting event, whether it be pride for their team, sorrow at what's happening or celebrating a victory. Music can always be counted on to set the soundtrack for any game.

10. Let's Get It Started - the Black Eyed Peas

With the loud, pounding beat, the catchy and telling lyrics, the Black Eyed Peas' hit is a surefire way to get the crowd ready for the event that is about to begin, and to get the crowd amped.

9. All Star - Smash Mouth

"Hey now/ you're an all star/ get your game on/ go play" - a song one can sing along to is perfect for any stadium setting, and with its catchy, rapid lyrics and fun beat, All Star hits the bill.

8. Who Let the Dogs Out - Baha Men

Another participation song - everyone is sure to want to sing along and join in woofing when the Baha Men's hit comes on. It's also the perfect song to pump up a crowd, and get them ready for what's to come.

7. Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Baseball's official theme song mentions everything that is great about the sport - from the crowd's to the team to the snacks - the song sets the mood for the game and gets everyone on their feet!

6. Centerfield - John Fogerty

Another ode to America's favorite pastime, John Fogerty's hand-clap, guitar driven song, about a young man yearning to play on the team instead of spending time on the bench, is a catchy tune that captures the spirit of every young person who wants to get up and play the game.

5. Another One Bites the Dust - Queen

With one of the catchiest and most recognizable beats in music, Queen's hit is the perfect send-off to the opposing team - and it gets the crowd chanting too.

4. Eye of the Tiger - Survivor

3. Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond

From the slow build to the chorus that is built for singing along to, the song evokes a spirit that many other songs cannot touch, when it is performed at, essentially, every type of sporting event. Adding in participation "so good, so good, so good" to the chorus also helped make it a staple in sports.

2. We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions - Queen

When thinking about sports and music these two songs undoubtedly are the most recognizable and thought of. We Will Rock You exudes a kind of passion that is known in the sports world, not to mention the catchy hand clap beat, that everyone takes part in. In contrast the slow We Are the Champions describes the struggle it takes to get to victory, and is used in all kinds of competitions. Together, they are a force.

1. Rocky Theme Song

An iconic song matched by the iconic sequence in the first Rocky movie, culminating in Rocky's successful run up the steps - jumping up and down, arms pumping in the air. The song can evokes that championing feeling in anybody.
