Top Ten Stocking Stuffers for Construction Workers

Judith Blakley
Our hardworking industrious construction workers need special attention during the holidays. Last year, my article: "Top Ten Gift Ideas for Construction Workers" (HERE) received well, and thus is being followed up this year with suggestions for their stockings. Readers will find fun, interesting and thoughtful ideas follow.

Top Ten Stocking Stuffers for Construction Workers:

1. Socks

Thermal, wool and battery operated socks are great stocking stuffers for anyone who works outdoors, including your construction worker.

Battery operated socks can be found at most outdoor sports and hunting stores.

2. Batteries

All their gadgets, toys and remotes cannot run without batteries. Give your construction worker a few packages of Cs, Ds and AAs and they will be thrilled.

3. Mini Flashlight

As I said last year, a construction worker can never have enough flashlights. Find a cool mini flashlight and drop it into their stocking. They will love it.

4. First Aid Supplies

Last year, someone made a wonderful suggestion in a comment to my article: "Top Ten Gift Ideas for Construction Workers." They suggested giving them items to refill their first aid kits. First aid supplies make a fantastic and thoughtful stocking stuffer.

Suggested Items: first aid tape, pain relievers, gauze, bandages, band-aids in assorted sizes, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, first aid scissors, antibiotic ointment and burn cream.

5. Gadgets

This is simply satisfying your construction worker's curiosity. They get up before the rest of the world and thus are subjected to tons of "As Seen On TV" type commercials with dozens of gadgets to play with. Whether they work or not is not important, think of them as toys.

Store aisles are full of gadgets during the holiday season, television is full of gadgets year-round and now there are even stores selling "As Seen On TV" gadgets.

6. Swiss Army Knife

Swiss Army Knives come in a variety of sizes, colors and options. If your construction worker is a collector, as mine is, then find one in a new design/color pattern. Around the holiday season, new colors and designs make their way to stores.

Make sure the one you buy has scissors, as that is the piece that they use most often.

7. Speed Square

This is going to be one of those items that sticks out the top of the stocking and tempts them to look further. Speed squares are rectangular in shape and assist in various measures and squaring. Squaring is a corner of something to the rest of us.

8. Chalk Line

Chalk lines are another form of marking. They are usually oval in shape and filled with powered chalk. The construction worker would measure two points, anchor the string (line) at one point, pull the string out of the device, anchor the other end to the second point, then mark the line by pulling up on the string and letting go. A perfectly straight line of chalk shows up between the two points.

9. Carpenter Pencils & Sharpener

Carpenter pencils are those odd shaped long, flat pencils. They are used for any type of marking that a construction worker might need.

Carpenter pencil sharpeners have only been on the market for three years and every construction worker wants one.

10. Laser Level

Laser levels come in a variety of shapes and sizes and it is easy to find one that will fit into your construction worker's stocking. Laser levels work in a similar manor to the chalk lines above (number 8 on this list), without the mess.

When I asked my construction worker, my husband, for help, he took me to his tool box and started showing me items. When he had his carpenter pencils in his hands, he suddenly remembered the new sharpener and he really wants one badly this year.
