Top Ten Suberbowl Commercials

My Picks and Their Summaries

Super bowl commercials seemed to taper off at the end of the game - but that may have just been because the game actually got interesting. As always, they promised a fun and entertaining time, with a new, added twist: there were a few 3D commercials thrown in! My friend had found 3d glasses somewhere - enough for the entire party, so we spent our few minutes of 3D action blissfully. Luckily, the 3D didn't detract too much from the normal viewing of the commercial - because I peeked a few times.

The Budweiser commercials were probably the most consistently amusing commercials during the Superbowl, across the board. Bud has a tradition of funny commercials - with the Clydesdale horses at the center of their campaign, as well as their previous foray into the frogs and lizards. So which commercials hit my top ten?

Number 10 - Bud Clydesdale In Love

This commercial was so adorable, I'll forgive the fact that it was for beer. It featured a Bud Clydesdale Horse falling in love with "Daisy," a circus horse. She is taken away from him, and the Bud horse races through the streets, through water and over the grand canyon, itself, to get to her. Ending line? One of the circus workers commenting that he didn't even know Daisy was in love.

Number 9 - Conan's Crossdressing Mistake

Conan should never, ever wear that outfit again. I know the man has a sense of humor, and everyone famous has to do a commercial at some point, but damn! I can't even talk about it.

Number 8 - Immigrating Horse?

This one also touched my heart in a quirky way. It featured "Jake," another Clydesdale, going through what his great grandfather horse did to get here - immigrated, failed at several jobs (including racing, and piano moving) - all so he could be bred. And, presumably, become a bud horse.

Number 7 - The Moose's Rear End

Man walks into his office and sits down. Underneath a moose's rear end. The head is through the wall, in a superior's office, hanging. Careerbuilder was right: It's time for that man to get a new job.

Number 6 - Maybe You Should Get A Dog

Pedigree's adoption drive commercial was their thirty seconds of fame, and it was a memorable thirty seconds. Featuring a rhino busting a door down, and my personal favorite: an old woman chasing an ostrich. Pedigree's right. Maybe you should get a dog, instead.

Number 5 - The Show Off Horse

Who exactly is the man's best friend? A jealous Clydesdale - again, with the horses - watches his owner play with the dog. Then our favorite horse friend ran off to bring back a tree limb to his owner. Owner's response? "Show off."

Number 4 - Mrs. Potatohead's Angry Eyes

This struck home, because sometimes, the eyes can say it all. It was a Bridgestone commercial, but all I could remember was the Potatoheads. Mr. Potatohead is driving, and stops just feet from a herd of sheep, sending his missus' lips flying off as she begins to yell at him. Frustrated that she can no longer yell about her near death experience, Mrs. Potatohead reaches into the glove box and grabs her angry eyes. Enough said about that - or any - marriage.

Number 3 - Don't Throw The Snow Globe

The first part of this commercial features a snow globe. The handler of the globe 'predicts' that it's "free Doritos at the office" day. He then throws the globe into the snack machine, breaking the glass and getting all of the Doritos, for free. Second scene shows another man praying for a promotion with the globe, then turning and launching the snow globe - right into his boss's crotch. No promotion for him!

Number 2 - Careerbuilder's Punching The Panda

This commercial reminded me of the twelve days of Christmas, with its various "If this is happening, maybe it's time for a new job" sort of things. I don't remember all of them, but the hand reaching out to punch the panda topped the list within the commercial. You're right once more Careerbuilder: If your job makes you want to punch a panda, maybe it's time for a new job.

Number 1 - Let's Get Rid of Beer

One of the first commercials shown, this one remained my favorite commercial throughout the four hours of Superbowl broadcast. A bunch of executives are sitting at a meeting with their case of Bud Light, talking about how they can cut expenses and save the company. The final suggestion? Stop buying Bud for the meetings. Next scene? Man, complete with office chair, thrown through the top office building window, into a tree and onto the ground. Enough said.
