Top Ten Summer Comedy Movies to Watch for 2010

Summer comedy movies are a great way to spend time during the summer if you just feel like being a couch potato. Maybe it's raining, so you can't actually go swimming today or make attempts at getting a tan. So, you're left with watching a summer movie. Well, if you don't really feel like thinking through a drama, a summer comedy is a lighthearted way to enjoy the afternoon or evening. Here are the top ten summer comedy movies.

1. The Great Outdoors (1988). Add John Candy to any movie and you're going to get a comedy. Throw in a summer trip and you've got a funny summer comedy. John Candy takes his families on a camping trip to a lakeside resort to stay in a cabin. Unexpectedly, his brother and his family decide to show up and make things interesting. The adventures await in this summer comedy movie.

2. Getting Him to the Greek (2010). A new release for the summer of 2010, this summer comedy is a sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall. We get another heavy dose of comedian Russell Brand, who has become one of my favorite comedians lately. I love his accent. In this movie, Aaron Green (played by Jonah Hill) must get Russell Brand's character to a Greek theatre for a comeback musical performance. The adventure is all about trying to work with this difficult guy and finally get him where he's supposed to be in a matter of a few days.

3. The Hangover (2009). Four friends go on a trip to Las Vegas for a bachelor party, and get annihilated (totally intoxicated). The next morning they can't find one friend, and don't have any clue as to what happened the previous night that led them to the events of this day. This is a hilarious summer comedy movie.

4. Date Night (2010). If you want an off the wall comedy, this is your choice for a summer comical movie. Date Night stars two funny people, Steve Carrell and Tina Fey as a married couple who have reached the point of boredom. To spice things up, they decide to go out for a nice evening for dinner. Because they can't get a table, they pretend to be another couple who has no-showed for their reservation. Thus ensues a whole series of adventures, because this other couple was wanted by the mob for some flash drive. Imagine the two of them trying to get out of the situation and outsmart the mob. This is funny stuff.

5. Furry Vengeance (2010). A real estate developer is sent by his company to develop a forest into homes. This summer comedy stars Brendan Fraser as the developer and Brooke Shields as his wife. Once they reach Oregon and he sets out to his task, he finds that the animals are not going to just give up their homeland without a fight.

6. Due Date (2010). Peter Highman, played by Robert Lee Downey, Jr. is about to be a father. Well, his wife is at home, and he is on a business trip. He tries to get a flight back, but of course, this can't work out. So, he has to take a road trip with Ethan Tremblay (played by Zach Galifianakis), and everything in the world goes wrong. Judging from Zach's character in The Hangover, you can imagine he's just going to be the most annoying road trip partner in the history of time. Will Peter get to his wife for the birth? The due date for this summer comedy movie is November of 2010.

7. When in Rome (2010). Kristen Bell plays a lady who goes to Rome because she is fed up with romance. Once there, she steals some coins from a fountain. There is a legend that if someone does this, the owner of the coins will fall in love with that person. So, this guy she met in Rome supposedly owned one of the coins. Now she may never know whether he really cares about her or it's the legend taking action. Throw in all of the other guys who owned the coins she stealed, and you've got some total confusion and the makings of an awesome comical summer movie.

8. The Backup Plan (2010). Okay, ladies, all of you out there at some point have thought about your backup plan. If you don't meet the right guy, you've probably considered getting a sperm donor so you can still have a child. Well, this is exactly what Jennifer Lopez does. She never found her guy, so she gets impregnated the artificial way. And then what happens? Of course, once you stop looking you find what you were looking for. Then she meets that guy she had been looking for all along. Now what?

9. Grown Ups (2010). Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock, Kevin James and David Spade are five highschool friends who meet up after the death of their favorite basketball coach. What ensues is a funny adventure as they pretend to be kids again. Or didn't they ever grow up in the first place?

10. The Killers (2010). Ashton Kutcher was an assassin. He lived the high life, with expensive cars and beautiful women. Then, he meets Katherine Heigl's character and falls in love. He gives up the assassin life and gets married. Well, three years later Ashton's character discovers he is the target of a killing. Those responsible have been on his tail for years. Anyone could be the killer. Who is it? And, will his wife forgive him for not telling her he used to be an assassin?
