Top Ten Surprises at the Royal Wedding

Matthew Stoker
The first high-profile british royal wedding to take place in the internet age featured the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and it was estimated that 400 million viewers watched the ceremony on YouTube's live streaming video feed. While everything appeared to go off with a hitch on camera, behind the scenes a number of unexpected blunders occurred. Ten of them are listed below.

1. The Queen had a very "nasty conversation" with officials at Westminster Abbey when she was not allowed to bring her pet dogs inside the church.

2. Prince Charles was late because he didn't have enough cash on him for the ride from Buckingham Palace to the church.

3. Many british spectators watching the royals drive to Westminster Abbey believed the widespread rumor that the wedding would be followed by a "royal execution", leading many to chant "off with their heads!" at random intervals.

4. Kate Middleton got mud on the train of bride's dress, but she was able to cut off the soiled part with a pair of nail clippers.

5. Raw eggs in the royal wedding cake caused some wedding guests to come down with food poisoning.

6. Several minor british royals were too drunk to attend the wedding, so body doubles were used instead.

7. Prince Charles made a rambling speech about his desire for the monarchy to take back former british colonies, which prompted Elton John to walk out of the ceremony in protest.

8. Kate Middleton's twin sister, Molly, attended the wedding, forcing some palace watchers to speculate that the two had switched places after Kate's much publicized split with William.

9. Kate Middleton's dress was made entirely out of a weave of cotton candy, rose petals, and coconut, making it the world's first completely edible wedding gown, which unfortunately meant that wedding guests kept surreptitiously ripping off pieces to eat.

10. Sarah Ferguson, banned from attending the ceremony, showed up at the wedding buffet and "ate like a pig", according to inside sources.
