Top Ten Texting Abbreviations (You've Probably Never Heard Of)

Stacy Z
If you have a tween or teenager you are no doubt familiar with the popularity of texting. Teenagers use text messages to set up dates, gossip, and just chat. Because of the character limits that many programs place on text messages, abbreviations are common. Most people realize that "2" can mean "to" and "u" is "you" but what on earth does "IMU" mean? This article will help you to decipher some of the less common texting abbreviations. By the way, IMU means "I miss you".

@TEOTD- At The End Of the Day

831- This one had better be from a friend. It means "I love you". Think 8 letters, 3 words, 1 meaning.

182- If you get this one, you aren't talking to a friend. 182 in text-speak means "I hate you".

AFAIK- As Far As I Know

BBIAF, BBIAM, BBIAB- These three are variations on a theme. People use them when they are leaving their keyboard or phone for a while. They mean, "Be Back In a Few/Minute/Bit".

CTN- Use this one if you are busy or just don't have time to chat. It means "Can't Talk Now".

F2F- If someone asks you for this be sure you know who you are texting. F2F means "Face to Face" or an in-person meeting.

FYEO- If someone sends you this, don't share it. It means "For Your Eyes Only"

IMHO/IMNSHO- Use these when you are debating or discussing. They mean "In My Humble Opinion" and "In My Not So Humble Opinion".

IRL- This one is to remind you and your teenager that there is life outside of texting and gaming. It seems like a fitting end to our list. It stands for "In Real Life".
