For motorcycle owners, the purchase of accessories should be fairly evenly split between those meant for style and those meant for safety. While a car owner can get away with spending excess cash on frivolous items for their Toyota or Dodge, a motorcyclist doesn't have that luxury. Just what are some worthwhile purchases for a motorcycle owner?

1. A Hand Radio

When the road gets rough, be it weather or circumstance, having a battery operated, pocket radio can be a godsend. Park off by the side of the road some place safe and follow the news or weather reports with your little radio buddy.

2. A Helmet

Some might say this should be number one, but I disagree because it's clichéd. Some choose not to wear one because of 'helmet hair' or a perceived unattractiveness to it. I say it's better to survive a crash then look good dead.

3. A Reliable Map

Though a necessary accessory to any motorcycle, there are those that prefer winging it and not bringing one along. Others believe they can just count on the electronic equivalent. Why risk it? Batteries die and tech can fail- paper is faithful.

4. Pair of Gloves

Biker gloves! One part style, one part functionality, and one part safety! In other words- look good, keep your hands clean, and keep them protected. Leather is a better choice than cloth for most.

5. Gas Container

Let's face it- you may not notice your gas tank dangling over E. When that last of drop goes- what are you going to do? Drag your bike down to the nearest Mapco? Better to come prepared with a container to transport some gasoline back. Last I checked a Sprite bottle isn't an optimal alternative.

6. Tool Kit

This one hinges on whether or not you actually have an mechanical aptitude. After all, all the wrenches and screwdrivers in the world will do you know good if you have no idea what you're doing. Still, when a simple repair or alteration is needed- a tool kit can be a huge help.

7. First Aid Kit

Like it or not, chances are you're going to get injured at some point during your time owning a motorcycle. Better to be prepared with some basic medical supplies when that inevitably happens.

8. Rechargeable Flashlight & Sunglasses

This pair solve the problems of both sides of the coin. Too bright out? Put on some shades. Too dark? Pull out a nice bright flashlight. I recommend the rechargeable variety with the lever for easy charging.

9. Chain & Lock

There will be those at are jealous of your chick magnet vehicle. Those that wish to take it and use it for their diabolical whims. By chaining up and locking your motorcycle when it's unattended, you protect yourself against this threat.

10. Motorcycle Cover

Rainwater is no good for your ride- nor the other elements. Protect your bike against rain, dust, snow, and so-on with a nice, durable cover. It may not perfectly defend it, but it's at least a layer of protection.
