Top Ten New Year's Resolutions for 2009

Alexandra Morgan
I'm more of a Life Goals person, everyday I write down new goals (short and long-term) for myself, but in the interest of being festive, here are my top ten New Year's Resolutions for 2009. They start at 10 and go to number 1, with 1 being the most important and probably the hardest to keep.

10.) Maintain My Car Better

I'm the girl who doesn't even put air in the tires, so my resolution is to keep up with my every 3 month oil changes and 6 month tun-ups. My poor little car (pushing 160,000 miles) will be happy.

9.) Take More Day Trips

There are so many places nearby that I have never seen. A smmall 3 hour trip is a great way to save money while yet going somewhere new. I intend to take advantage of the nearby resources this year.

8.) Come To Grips With Turning 30

People always telol me that turning 30 isn't a big deal - but the ones who say it are all well over 30. It's a bit daunting when you're looking at it head-on. But I prefer to live by the old addage, "you're only as old as you feel," and I intend to feel 25 for as long as I can. Part of my resolution is to take off work that day (that will be a first for me) and enjoy it.

7.) Take Belly Dancing Lessons

I've been talking about doing this for a few years now, and 2009 is going to be the year. Besides, exercise is supposed to be fun - it sure beats the hell out of running on the stair machine while staring blankly at my reflection.

6.) Make More Female Friends

This is an ongoing goal for me because I get along better with men, but I hope to add 5 new gal pals by the end of the year.

5.) Write More AC Articles

It's a struggle balancing a full-time job and social life, while trying to keep the freelance writing at a level that pays enough. My goal is to consistently write 4 articles a week, here's hoping I can reach that goal and keep the momentum.

4.) Learn To Cook Some Traditional Jewish Meals

So, I've been obsessed with Jewish fare of late and I would love to learn to make some yummy Jewish meals. Could prove to be a great dinner party idea.

3.) Start the Book

All of you writers out there know this one well. This has to be the year that I start the book I've been threatening to write. I'm not delusional enough to think that I'll get it finished within the year, but a good running start would be great.

2.) Maintain A Relationship

I'm guilty of never being single - always replacing one guy with another before the last relationship is even over. So, this year I want to hold out for a good one and try like hell not to screw it up.

1.) Let Go Of The Anger

My dad and I made a pact recently that we would each make sure not to let our anger get out of control this year. We're of Scotts Irish heritage, so you can imagine...

The goal is to not say hurtful things that I'll regret later or do anything else in anger that I wouldn't be proud to admit to later.

** Even though I've already completed the list, I'm going to throw in three more for good measure (always good to have a fall-back resolution - careful, this is what happens to you when you make life goals everyday).

Write More Poetry and Let It Come Naturally

I tend to panick when I haven't written any new poems in a while, which leads to writer's block and just generally crappy poetry. So this year will be about letting the poetry muses run free.

Start My Blog

Much like the book, I've intended to do this for some time and what can I say, life gets in the way sometimes. But depending on how many of the other resolutions I keep, this one will get ernest effort.

Join A Book Club

I know realistically that I won't have time for all of these things, but you try a few and see what works, right? I've always liked the idea of a Book Club, there's something really classic about it.

Here's hoping I can keep at least one of my Resolutions for 2009 and good luck to you with yours.
