Top Three Creative First-Date Locations in Albuquerque

Marilyn Quinn
Albuquerque is packed with wonderful venues to bring a date to. Dinner, dancing, live music, natural attractions, sports activities and cultural and arts centers are just some of the many places you could go. Instead of the usual dinner, dancing and movie dates; why not try out one of my top three picks for creative first date locations in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

My first pick is the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. The museum has eight permanent exhibit halls that take you on a journey through time showing the formation of New Mexico: Origins/Paleozoic, Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Jurassic Super Giants, New Mexico's Seacoast, Age of Volcanoes, Evolving Grasslands, The Cave Experience and New Mexico's Ice Age. There are other permanent exhibits to see also. For a first date, you might want to lean towards the Planetarium or the DynaTheater. The DynaTheater will give you a movie feel, but with a fun, educational slant on a giant 5-story screen. The Planetarium is New Mexico's largest domed theater. Cost are $7 for each attraction; discounts are available if you purchase tickets for multiple venues.

Our next date location is Explora. As stated on their website, "Explora is a place where families can get to know each other better, learn together, and share new experiences of the basic processes and materials investigated and used by science, technology and art." Explora has an Adult Night every other month. Adults 18 and over can explore and take part in special activities. This is quirky, fun for a first date. Adult admissions are $7.

Lastly, we recommend taking your date to the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park. This is definitely not your typical first date. The Nature Center has bird walks and nature walks. But for a special date experience, the RGNC has Moon Walks. Under the light of the full moon, you can go for a quiet walk and listen for owls, watch for coyotes and look for movements in the brush. You should make a reservation in advance. Admission to the Nature Center is $3.00 per car. This is sure to be a first date neither of you will soon forget.
