Top Three Gifts for Gadget Lovers

There is a rule of thumb for those who follow technology. This is called "Moore's Law" for former Intel CEO Gordon Moore, who postulated that computer technology doubles once every eighteen months. This rule of thumb is starting to be disproven, but it still has a lot of wisdom behind it. Technology is moving at a frightening rate. With computers coming with 200GB standard hard drives and Ipods that hold 1000 songs, the magnitude of this is enormous. Especially if your holiday shopping list includes a technophile. Here are three products which may not be the latest and greatest in six months, but they are certain to not be obsolete.

A GPS is short for Global Positioning System. This handy little device will give you directions. Some have preloaded maps, some have voice directions, some offer door-to-door directions, and some are made specifically for motorcycles and scooters. And the thing that makes these an especially good pick is that they can be upgraded with special services. There are currently ones that will tell you the weather, read you an audiobook, or even tell you where fixed traffic cameras are, in order to avoid tickets. Because of these type features, these will be slow to become obsolete, and can be used for years to come.

A Skype Wireless Phone allows you to make free wireless calls, anywhere in the world. Skype is a free online service that allows you to make calls. The first version worked with the internet, and used speakers and microphones connected to your PC. Then, special phones came out that plugged into your PC USB slot, and allowed you to feel a little bit more like you were actually making a phone call. The next step was to have a device that plugged into your computer and transmitted the signal to a wireless phone. This allowed you the freedom to roam around the house and as far as your network signal could reach, but it still did not allow real travel away from home. Now, with this product, you will be able to make phone calls, without using any type of USB connector to make a phone call. It uses any open wireless connection, which can be found fairly easily, and even searched for on the Internet. The phone automatically connects to Skype, and therefore, you are able to place a call anywhere for free. Skype has led a huge revolution in allowing people to make free calls over the internet. With this phone, they are now freeing people from all phone charges.

A new gadget by Skullcandy, called the MacGyver Mp3 Watch, offers an MP3 player, 5 mode audio equalizer, 3D stereo sound, shuffle feature, voice recorder, integrated USB cable, the ability to play in multiple music formats, and a thumb drive. It is offered in a 512 MB or 1 Gig size. And the price tag for this item is not exceptionally high. The 512MB is $150, and the 1 Gig size is just under $200. Considering that this does all of this, AND tell time, it is a must-have gadget for any technophile. The look is stylish, and from a quick glance, you cannot tell that it does anything other than tell you the time.

These products will not last forever, but they are unique enough that they will not be obsolete when they are taken out of the box. With features that can be upgraded, allow you to connect to the entire world for free, and offer many different solutions in one neat, handy product, these products will certainly last for longer than the eighteen month window that Moore's law states.
