Top Three Weekend Escape Ideas

We all get close to our breaking point sometimes and realize that we need a break. But what do you do if you can't take a week's vacation to try to get some of your sanity back? Would a weekend be long enough to revive you?

It could be if you choose the right place to go. The perfect weekend escape is not about where you go as much as how the time away is spent. Your idea of a perfect weekend escape might be the complete opposite of someone else's. That's okay, it's your escape.

My idea of a perfect weekend escape is to actually spend my time doing nothing other than relaxing. Give me a good book and a quiet place and I am in Heaven. I can't unwind by darting around trying to fit different activities in and I don't want to.

Therefore, my first pick for a weekend escape is to spend it at a beach. I'm not picky about which beach, however I do love the Outer Banks. Depending on the time of year, a weekend accomodation could cost you anywhere from three hundred dollars and up. I always try to choose a hotel located right on the beach. That way the first thing I see in the morning is the ocean and the last thing I hear at night is the ocean. To me there is nothing that will calm you down and revive you more than time spent near the ocean. Water just has a calming effect on most people.

My next weekend escape would be a weekend spent camping at a nearby lake. Cave Run Lake, located near Morehead, Kentucky, is an excellent area to spend a weekend or longer if you can. This great lake has about everything you could ask for in a place to relax and enjoy life. Great fishing, beaches, and camping areas with great facilities help you enjoy your time away from the reality of life. There are great bicycle and walking trails to help you relax and enjoy the scenic beauty surrounding you. Or you could just rent a boat and motor gently around the lake. Camping, even for a few days, helps you to relate to the basics of life and realize that there is no better place to be than out in the middle of nature to get your life back in harmony.

Camping is also one of the least expensive weekend escapes you can find. The basic costs are the gasoline to drive you there, food to fix while you're there, and the cost of a camping site. The prices for the sites vary depending on which campground you choose, how large a camping area you want, and the time of year you choose to camp.

My last weekend escape idea would be to stay at home and not let anyone know I'm there. I would unplug my home telephone, turn the cell phone off and not answer the door for anyone. I would spend the entire weekend in my pajamas, watching comedies on television, reading a good thriller, and eating junk food. I would run a hot bath, light candles, and just soak for as long as I wanted. Then I would get out, put my pajamas back on, and watch some old Andy Griffith or Golden Girls reruns until I fell asleep. The cost of this weekend escape would be virtually nothing. Unless your family found out that you were home all along and just wouldn't answer the phone. They might pout for a day or two. But believe me, it would be worth it.

So the next time you need a weekend escape, keep in mind that you don't have to spend a lot of money. Your perfect escape could take place right inside your very own walls. The escape could be as simple as turning the phones off and spending the weekend pampering yourself. Everyone needs a little rest and relaxation at times to help us cope with our busy lives. Plan you one. You deserve it. You've earned it.
